Better Breathing ??

Hi All - got a question:

I just got my 2003 Yellow P5 - I love the handling, but I would sure like to get a few extra HP out of the 2.0L / 5 spd.

Q?: Does the stock engine already breath quite well, or can some real HP gains be possible with larger / colder air intake and higher-flowing exhaust? Anyone have firsthand experience on it or seen any published claims on the web?? I've only got a 170 miles on it so far :-) and I don't want to do a great deal of mods immediately, but I would do a few basic / low cost mods if there is a real gain....

Any input (facts, figures, opinions, web links, whatever) would be much appreciated!

Peace & blessings...

I'd recommend just searching throughtout this site using the "search function' above and learn all you can by reading over two years of threads by other members. You'll gather more than enough information to start your mod journey with our cars. Some info is disheartening and some is hopeful...but that is my recommendation. BTW, the short and quick on your question is: A: OEM breathing on these cars, as with most OEMS setups are restrictive..and Yes, aftermarket intakes will perform better....but only to a tune of 2-4 HP more..if that, on the CAI bolt on mod..Peace!

you want to be ghetto than you can get woman's pantyhose and strech it across the air filter box. You get a throatier sound and its supposed to give you soem minor hp gains too.

i would just invest in a new intake though, lol
