Best mod for under the hood?

I would probably do the header, as i don't think doing exhaust is much of an improvement on Proteges. The header will get rid of a cat and be pretty.
 
No idea, maybe 5whp and 5trq. More than the other 2 mods listed. The fun of the header is the car will rev a little quicker without that stupid catalitic converter in there.
 
If your finds are limited, after intake I would go with header and exhaust. Some would also say a lightened pulley (ie Unorthodox).

If you've got money to burn, go FI. Hiboost is gooooood!
 
It was probably so noticeable because you already did your intake and exhaust. Had you done the header first, you may have thought otherwise. Any one mod (except for a turbo) is not going to give you much of an increase in power... IMO :)

The problem with a header is that it makes the car loud as crap.....not that I've heard one.....that is just the rumor I've read on these boards.
 
On an otherwise stock system, I don't think you would be able to tell much difference. If you have a cat-back with a poor or non-existant resonator, then it will be a little louder. If you remove all the cats and resonator, then it will be loud as hell no matter what muffler you have on there. If you want a cat-back to go with your header and still be able to hear in your golden years, I would suggest the RacingBeat.

do headers and such have any effect on emissions passing for inspection....Im an idiot, I have no idea about this stuff, but I would like to make my car faster without having to deal with failing inspections.....Mass sucks

it can have an effect, especially in MA. I'm not 100% sure with the p5 if it'll pass or not. I intend on adding a header to my car, but that's a little while off. i suppose worst case scenario you could run a little alcohol in the gastank to clean up the emissions (trick i used to use on my rx7)

best mod under the hood for horsepower and torque is turbo..
You wont get that far w/ just a Cold Air intake.
 
header will give you more power than a CAI, but if you can get both it would be a good combo
