Belt squeal, but I got bigger problems with it...

Tightened my belts a while back after my gasket job, also put a new alternator in. I'm using gatorbacks and the belt in question is the one on the alternator. Whatever the other pulley is on that belt, it looks dented a tad. Also, the belt is a 4-rib pattern. The rib closest to the motor, on the belt, is totally shredded off. Anyone got any ideas? It's frayed and squealing.

If that belt breaks do not drive the car. The other pulley on the alternator belt is the water pump. If the water pump pulley is dented you are going to continue chewing up the belts. Replace the water pump pulley ASAP.

+1 to Codex. I'm dealing with a belt squeal intermittently as well. However mine is on the PS and AC side. Glad it's not the water pump.

The pulley is separate from the water pump itself, there is 3 bolts that hold it on. Not too sure where you could buy another one. I wouldn't try bending it back because if its even slightly off you will still prematurely wear the belt out. I would check a scrap yard for the pulley.

Idk of any scrap yards around here. I know of a website tho. If I can't get it fixed exactly flat then I'll have to buy a new one
