Battery venting acid ..anyone else?

I've noticed some "liquid" drops on top of the battery the past month when I would check the oil.
Today I was running through some backroad twisties (at a speed somewhat higher than the posted limit). About 10 minutes later I could smell what I thought was coolant.
I checked the engine bay out when I got home and didn't find a coolant leak but found alot of battery acid drops all over the top of the battery.
The battery has been venting for some time as the drivers side engine mount and it's bolt heads have a white powdery buildup indicating corrosion from the acid. (Bought the P5 in late December)
I pulled the battery and there also was acid down on the transmission and half shaft (which has all the green paint eaten off).....
It's a cheezy Panasonic battery and each battery cap has a tiny vent hole that pisses out liquid when you press on the side of the battery wall.
I assume it may have been too full and I removed some "water" from each cell (keeping it above the lead plates).
Anyone else notice this?
Warranty replacement for similar POS or is there an Optima Gel that will fit???

Sounds like a defective battery to me. Since the batteries seem to be pretty lousy (based off of complaints in the forums regarding them) I would go for the Optima. Of course, if you do not want to spend anything, take it to the dealer, and have them swap it out. In the meantime, make sure the acid does not touch the paint in the engine compartment, as it will strip the paint off.

It already "boiled" the black paint off the engine mount bracket below the battery. I mixed up a quart of baking soda/water and poured it all over that area to clean it up.

When my POS battery died (slightly over 2 yrs), I asked my dealer if there's a warranty on it. He said yes, but will probably have to pro-rate it (that means I'll need to fork out $$$ to get another POS). Of course I said no thanks.

Got a battery and realized that the factory battery is TINY. There was like and inch more of space available on the battery tray, so if you're gonna get a new one, get the biggest one that could fit.

I noiced that to with my battery. I think I might of filled it with to much water.
Also I noticed if your windows are up, and you push the window button to go up again, the head lights on the car (when the lights are on at night) will dim out just a little showing some power drain. Is this a sign of a weak battery?

will dim out just a little showing some power drain
That's probably not a power drain but a power "overload". The window motor is trying to push up on an already closed window and motor is drawing full power pushing against the closed window which would pull some power away from other components. (not correct electrical terms but I think you know what I mean......)

My sister has a Mazda MPV and when I try that in her car the lights don't seem to dim out like that.
I think our MP5 has uh cheap battery her battery is maintenace free.
Any one thinks we should change our battery?

ya that happend to my pro5 as well....had a battery acid leak all over the drivers side, got on the transmission, half shaft, and motor mount...even started rusting....i had to scrape off all the flaking paint and get some of that anti black rust paint from Canadian tire as well as a new battery

as well as a new battery
Did you have it replaced by the dealer or did you get a better aftermarket battery?
If it was an aftermarket, what brand/model??

(I initially thought the white powder on the lower engine mount bolts & tranny were from the winter salt on the roads.... duh....)

it was a canadian tire heavy duty battery...nothing fancy about it

dealer whouldn't even look at it cause i have my amp and sub tube connected to my battery
