Hi All,

I am new to this forum. really need help to get a new battery on an older car 1991 Miata. Can anyone direct me to a good and inexpensive place. I'm not rich. The CF at Waipahu requires $400 diagnostic first,
Is that how it always is? Much obliged for any help --enc

You should get an Optima battery. They last long and you can mount them anywhere. Also they only cost about $150. Also you should be able to get it at checkers. Also try Walmart they might have it too.

Thats Crazzzzy!

$400 is crazy. Unless your engine check light is on you dont need diagnostics and most places on the island only charge about a $100 for diag. If your just looking for a battery though and nothing else is wrong 808P5 is right Optimas are the best you should probubly get a red top its mad universal for cars go to casco its cheap there. If ther is somthing wrong with your car you should try Wayne's Auto Electric they helped me in the past and there diagnostics only cost $80.00 bucks

hope i helped you answer your question,jdmBHA808:)

there are several miata vendors that carry the miata replacement batteries if you wanted to go that route. pm me and I can point you in the right direction.

Thank-you for the economical advice. The charge light IS flickering on. But the cost is prohibitive to even inspect it. I mean, seriously, I couldn't sell the car for much more than twice that (maybe, I exaggerate). But the point is the car shop is going to break my bank (the round one,on my shelf) I really appreciate the advice. enc

Where are you located? do you still have the car with you? or is it at the shop? Does the car run? And by charge light you mean check light right?

are you looking to just test your battery? checkers will do it for free....i believe they can even test your alternator...i took my car there for them to test the battery when my car died...be prepared however to take the battery out of your car yourself...

when i took my car there, the car was too hot for the testing machine so i had to take the battery out of the car myself....carry it in to the store...and then put the battery back in my car....the thing that pissed me off about it though was that i told them i didnt know how to do it and they looked at me like im a dumb ass...im basically car illiterate and im just suprised i didnt f*ck my car up

It was a joke about the blue book on 1991 Miatas. The cars are built so well that it is a joke about the set values (IMHO). I said that my diagnosic (400)would be 1/2 the value of the 1991 car. (so 800)..But that was a Joke.

Getting back to the battery. The charging system light on the dash goes on at times. Come to think about it. It started after a stereo player was installed and everytime the clutch was depressed I got static noise in the left speaker. I think I just did the physical exam. Don't need no doctor! But I'll get a cheaper diagnosis than the CF asks up front. Take out the stereo again? Thanks people have been very helpful here!! I'm not a mechanic as you can tell. But I can read the posts and remember where to go. I got my plan now!

Also to questions by 808P5 I'm located in Pearl City. Car does run. And not in shop. I have an appt next week at the expensive place. It's the charge system warning light. Looks like a battery. Thanks Nutari, Jdm good advice!

To Mazda6gyrl, I will try Checkers and see. I know less than you! I think several things are going wrong at the same time is all. ...enc

Travel to Lhasa, travel to Tibet

Tibet, which is locked away in its mountain fastness of Himalaya, the Roof of the World, for centuries the mysterious Buddhist holy place, and has exercised a unique hold on the imagination of the west ,is without doubt one of the most remarkable places to visit during China Travel. As the capital city of Tibet, Lhasa is rightly one of the most featured and dreamt-about cities in the world. This is not only because of its remoteness, its high altitude at 3,650 meters means limited accessibility, but also because of its impressive heritage of over a thousand years of cultural and spiritual history that has helped to create the romantic and mysterious Tibetan religion. The splendor and grandeur of the Potala Palace, also the Jokhang Temple, in Lhasa remains a world-famous symbol of the enigmatic power of politics and religion in this region. For adventurers and traders, travel to Lhasa is a trip full of treasure and riches. Tibet travelwill be the first choice for tourists visiting Asia.
