Bad Metallic sounding Clunk in FRONT

Hi All,

I have a NEW clunk. It is coming from the FRONT of the car - sounds like the driver's side only. It occurs mainly when driving over un-even road surfaces and it sounds like the strut is running out of travel - or something like that. It actually doesn't seem to happen too much over really big bumps, but maybe that's just because the clunk from the back drowns it out?

Anyway, I thought it might be the strut itself that has gone bad, but someone suggested that it might be a strut bushing. Anyone else have THIS problem?

i have a clunk on the passenger's side...it's not a "bad metallic sound"...it sounds about like the rear...and there's a little squeak up there too...my car is going to the dealership tomorrow to have them check it all out...i'll let you know what they tell me.

I have a huge clunk-wham on mine under hard acceleration while turning from a stop (like hammering it out of a parking lot or off a side street). I talked to the mechanic yesterday and he said that it's one of the engine dampers and Mazda did that on purpose so we wouldn't beat on our cars.

Maybe he's full of crap but it sounds about right. Maybe the same thing for you guys?

well, i worked at the dealership i'm taking mine to tomorrow...the service manager and i are pretty good friends...and one of the techs there had an mp3 at one time...so i know they won't BS me...and they're a bunch of great guys. i'll let you know what i find out.

ok, they are replacing both my front and rear bushings...thanks to the TSB mazda has put out. they had to order the parts, so they're going on tuesday.

I got hosed on this, went rounds with the dealership to get the bushings replaced, got tired of the hassels and dropped teh car, now they won;t warranty a thing!

is this TSB only for the MP3? because i have that weird sound that jsesq was describing and it is coming from the driver side too..... its not really that annoying but i just know it is there sometimes.....

when the tech pulled up the tsb it listed the mp3 & the msp...since they both have the same suspension. i'm waiting for my bushings to come in...i'll let you know how it sounds after they get put on...and i'll get the tsb#'s.

yeah, the bushings are in...but they couldn't schedule me in until monday 3/15. the service writers there really suck ass. they didn't even know my bushings had arrived. assholes.

I went today and they told me that it was toe links. Does that sound right? Could it be the toe links - or is it more likely the bushings?

I have a PR5 and I had the same noise but mine was a bad tie rod end. Driver's side.

how did you manage to reproduce the sound at to let the dealer know that there was a problem?

i took him for a ride but then i jacked up the car and "wiggled" the left from left to right to show there was some play
