well i never ever knew but for some reason tonight on the way home my car backfired like 4 times... my friend that works with me was behind me cuz he lives near my house... he said he seen balls of flames coming outta my pipe... i said, ok sure ya did... i didn't believe him... than it happened again while shifting to third gear and i looked real quick and i see a small light coming from the rear window... yeap, that bastard was right...

but ****, why do msp's run sooo damn rich... its cool as s*** to see backfire and wat not, but does that affect anything?

o and for those that don't know... i have the vibrant turbo catback exhaust... it my second week of having the exhaust and jus today i witnessed this s***...

we'll today i did run it hard... so dumb neon was stunt driving behind me and i floored it into third and thats when i seen it myself...

anybody else got this aswell?

o ok... i thought i had a problem... cuz tonight was the only night it did it... i park it, i rev it and it didnt do it... so i assume i was jus running a bit tooo rich and it pooted it out in a ball of fire... eh, i better happen when i'm showing off cuz ima look like an ass lol...

I backfire occasionally, and only under one condition. Coasting to a light or turn out of gear, then put it into gear and let out the clutch. Sometimes I get some nice pops, but most of the time you can barely hear it.

Yup exactly.

Also, if you shift very high in the RPMS.

yea thats wat i was doing... going from 2nd to 3rd and than POP... nice tiny flash on the passanger mirror...

today at school it did it again but oddly, i was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd... there was a VW VR6 behind me and the guy seen the backfire and he never got close to me, he kept a huge distance lol...

i have the highflow cat... i dunno why it would backfire like it does...

my instructor sayed it might be bad fuel mixture, or my sparkplugs aren't igniting the mixture and its jus coming out the pipe...

eh, i dunno... ima order those colder plugs jus for the hell of it...

Running rich protects the engine against damage at the cost of your spark plugs and gas milage, which are both cheaper than a new motor.

Backfire is nice. I don't know if it harms the engine or anything but who cares at this point. Everything seems to harm our engines.

I backfire all the time now, especially when you run it kind of hard, not even to redline. Not even close to redline to be honest, the most 5500rpms or less.

And i get little backfires, kind-of big backfires, and then BOOM big ass backfire. People in my car will look at me like the motor blew and I'm like what? Thats normal. I like it.

What exhaust do you have Boricua86? Ever since I've had no cats and 3in. it backfires alot. When i had a 2.5 in. downpipe and 1cat, it would backfire once in a blue moon, like coming to a stop out of gear.

I get backfires occasionally with Vibrant exhaust and I'm running Unichip...

I don't think that I've ever shot any fireballs, lol, but my friends STI does it all the time. He does not have any cats.

haha, back fires rules!!!

here's the trick
if you are running with gutted cats, or no cats at all......rev the engine to 4krpms and let it drop..and as soon as it hits 2000 rpms, rev again and let go right away...with enough luck...your car would back fire like a MOFO!!!

i do it under bridges and people look at me like "you just blew your engine" then i rev and leave...

priceless

I get the popping and gurgling sounds that I absolutely love, and that's with the Racing Beat cat-back (2.25 inch piping) and the stock primary cat still (for now).

if you're shooting flames, i think your cat might have taken some damage.....but if you're not throwing a cel, i guess you're ok.

You might have a leak in the IC/Intake system that's causing the car to run extra rich. You should not be shooting flames at all, just a pop here and there.

I raced a Vr6 GTI. When we got to the stoplight he goes "there is something really wrong with you car! Its on fire! It's shooting balls of fire out the back! Like 3 foot balls of fire" I told him. It's suppose to do that. He was all worried. He was all franticly yelling that at the stoplight. I have catless corksport. It was classic. The beauty of catless.
