B6 engine question

i've been wondering about this for some time now and have asked around some shops but i've been getting mixed answers.

can a cylinder head from a miata's b6 engine be swapped onto a b6 engine of a familia? i'm basically after the distributor-less ignition system of the miata's b6 engine. cosmetics of both b6 variants are different as well so i figured why not swap the heads instead of just pulling out the ignition system.

any ideas? tia.

I don't have any direct experience doing this, but I would imagine the head is swappable. Both are DOHC B6 engines, and whilst not impossible, it would be entirely improbable for mazda to redesign the head so as to not make it interchangable.....

your going to need the ecu and wiring harness with all the connectors you need and with the new head and i think you would be ok.

my exact thoughts LordWorm. i guess the only way to really be sure about it is to physically have find a miata cylinder head and compare it with a familia cylinder head.

thanks for the response too jamesk.

aside from just having a different kind of engine mod on the b6, would there be any added engine output by doing this mod?

yeah, probably it wouldn't be worth the investment in terms of overall power output. but i guess i simply just want to do something different from what's been done before.

there was mention that the miata and familia b6 have different head bolt locations. any insight on that info?

try PMing kcbhiw. He's a Miata guru and could probably tell you the answers you're looking for.
