Mazda does make an AWD 3 in Japan so it would stand to reason that the conversion of the U.S. model would be fairly straight forward. However, the stability control system might go bananas and cause a problem when you most need it.

I been reading about the ms6, and the magnetic clutch pack that activates the awd is in the rear differential, not in the tranny. So that means that technically, the ms6 tranny is always routing power to the rear wheels, but is the rear diff that engages/disengages the awd.

So, what I think is that, if we get a ms6 transmission and the japanese mz3 awd rear suspension, it absolutely should work. Also, the volvo s40/v50 awd is the same chassis as the ms3, so the rear suspension should be compatible.

That Japanese Mazda site kicks the US mazdasite's ass. Did anyone check out the introdution video? It was way better than the mazda ads in the US.
