OEM Mazda Aux Unit

I originally saw a picture of this part on 【MAZDA】Web Tune Factory and it made me curious. It took a little effort to find an English language Mazda site that listed this part.

Has anyone been able to get one of these and install it? How would this unit differ from the aftermarket Auxmod that people are installing?

eewwwwwwhh. stereo RCAs?! HA HA, I'd much prefer to go with a dock connector.

You'd still need to connect some time of auxmod unit behind the radio. That just gives you (an awkward) place to run the cables. I have my auxmod installed and the cable (and ground loop) under the front console and into the center console and into the cup holders. So I can just lay down my ipod and close the cup holder lid when I get out. Very simple and effective.

Otherwise, I'd go OEM and go the never see the ipod because it's in the glove box route.

Hmmm. Why would they put that by the passenger door - seems rather inconvenient. If the Auxmod didn't exist, then that would be a decent option. I don't see any advantages to that setup.

The mounting picture isn't of a Mazda5. You can basically mount it anywhere the hole can be cut and the harness can reach. Somewhere on the center console seems like the best place for me.

Since I don't have an iPod, this seems like a good way for me to play my MP3 player through my car stereo.

And it's an JDM OEM Mazda accessory, so it's cool like that.

Well I am VERY satisfied with my AuxMod/GLI/BelkinCarKit/ProClip mount. A bit pricey, but ipod stays always charged and is easily removable and hidden in the center console. Can't control iPod from stereo, but who cares, with the ProClip, the ipod is easily useable. All cable are routed inside the shift stick compartment. Very clean. Sound quality on par with CD.

So here's what you get from Mazda. The instruction book covers all the Mazda cars that have a media button.

You'd still need to connect some time of auxmod unit behind the radio.

Most likely not. It looks like it's plug and play.

But I haven't taken my radio out yet to install this, so it might not work on the US radio.

But if it installs per the instructions, then not only do you not need an AuxMod unit behind the radio but you could still install the tape module if you desired.

If it does work on the US radio, then it appears that all one would need to do is produce a cable that plugs into the back of our radios and routes to a spot where you could plug-in 1/8" mini-plug. (I might even modify mine to do this, since that would make the suface mounted hole much smaller.)

That'd certainly be cheaper to produce than the circuit board that's currently required in order to (redundantly) utilize the cassette tape slot.

And since the Japanese Mazda website also shows a audio/video 3-RCA input, those with navigation system might also be able to have the option to play back video. Something I'm sure you can't make happen through the tape slot.

Can we get a detailed picture of the connectors on that cable. If it's just a matter of plugging into the right pins, I'm so going for it.

Thanks.

In Singapore, where my work colleague sourced it, it's SGD $99.00 (or about USD $65.29). Since my colleague brought it back in his suitcase, I didn't pay any shipping.

In Japan it's listed on their website at JPY 16,380 (or about USD $138.75). I didn't see it listed on any other countries Mazda websites that I searched.

65$ is a good price - good score.(cool) I'd have considered that at that price. At over 100$ there are certainly better options.
