2001 Mazda Protege ES
Hey people,
I bought and successfully installed an AuxMod basic into my 2001 Protege ES, but now I need to feed the 3.5mm stereo mini-plug wire and was hoping for some opinions on the best way to wire it. Should I have the wire come out of the front of the radio where the MD/Tape attachment is, or feed it to the bottom of the console and have it come out near the cup holders. I know this is personal preference, but I would like to know whoever else has an auxmod or similar, what you did and how you did it.

If I were to feed the wire to the bottom, how would I go about doing that?

Any help would be great. This is what the console looks like ('cept I have the manual trans.):

ok i figured out a "path of least resistance"... Feed th wire from the auxmod chip attached to the radio behind the HVAC controls and throw the small space just below the bottom of the ashtray. The wire comes out from the little storage space behind the cup holders.

I figured this way I didn't have to drill/cut any holes and everything worked well. If anyone else has a better suggestion or if you have the AuxMod and have done something different, please post. (2thumbs)

your diagram is where i routed mine.
nice! Thanks for the post.

Here's what someone else has done:

I was THINKING about doing it that way, but i figured I didn't want a wire sticking out the front of the radio and possibly getting in the way of the shifter. Plus I'd have to drill/cut a hole -- there's no going back on that. I figured the way I did it was out of the way and discrete.

To connect it all, I bought a 6' male-to-male 3.5mm mini-plug and a female-to-female 3.5mm barrel just in case I need to plug something in that has it's own stereo cable.
