Autostart/Alarm Question

Hey, since the baby is here now and the temp is dropping down, I'm thinking of having an auto start system put into the p5. I don't really care about whether or not I have an extra alarm system. My p%=5 does have remote entry, power options, and is automatic...if that matters.

Any suggestions on what brands/types are worth the money.

Also, is this a straight-forward install, or something I need to have a pro hook up?

Thank you!

this is what Ive been looking into.

Most of my friends have a clifford 2-way system thats awesome. This particular model has a one mile range AND a built in turbo timer...

however I dont know enough about alarm system specifics to know whats the best and whats not.

As far as install goes, I wouldnt do it esp if it was remote start. Theres a lot of programming that goes into remote starts. Its worth the extra money to have someone qualified do it IMHO.

I have a Viper 791VX 2-way alarm/remote starter. Works awesome, has INCREDIBLE range.

I'm not sure about install, if you're good with wiring and such you might attempt it but I had mine installed professionally just for peace of mind. Hope that helps.

my 2c

I would strongly sugget a DEI product(Viper, Clifford, Avital). The Clifford or Viper SST has awesome 1 mile range and great reliability. The rest of the Viper or Clifford product line has a 1000-1500 ft range and will work great in most situations. If you need 1-mile range get the Viper 5500. If you don't need 1-mile go with the 591xv, 571xv or 160xv. I have had my 5900 for about 2 1/2-3 months now and love it.
As far as installation goes, you are better off having a professional do it, not only for peace of mind but for warranty purposes as well.(installation and unit)
The P5 is not difficult by any means if you are versed in doing such work though.

hehehe torin, please dont take it as an insult or as direspect but, it just made me smile, when I read your post it sounded like it was coming from a sales rep for DEI. :)

I agree with you though, the P5 or plain old protege are not difficult to install in, I did it myself and did not have any problems and I do not have any experience in wireing, I just had to follow the instructions and the VERY helpful thread started by 1sty.

Most people will recommend DEI because I'm sure its a great product, but I chose bulldog cause its cheaper and it had all the functionality I needed.

sorry...

Didn't mean to make it sound like a sales pitch, :) but I have been installing/seling DEI products for over 10 years now and I have had great reliability with them. I have also sold numerous other brands and not had the same customer satisfaction with them.

There are many other good products out there, but DEI is one of the best IMO!
Besides....if they keep it up they will have purchased all of their competition anyhow(Auto Command, Clifford, Astro Start, etc) (2thumbs)

Thanks,

torin2
