Hello All,

I have looked through the history of "transmission" posts and don't see many with details on how each member is doing their own transmission fluid exchange on their automatic proteges. I have dropped the pan and change the fluid/filter 30k miles ago and would like to change the fluid again. My issue, which is the same with all autos, is that when you do a simple drain and fill we only get 1/2 to 2/3 of the fluid out.

My question to you all is: I have seen other cars where you can pull a line from the trans cooler and run the car for a few minutes and it will help remove any fluid that was in the cooler, as well as, the transmission. Any members do some sort of system like this? If so, what lines are you pulling and where are they located. Thank you!

Much easier is to do a drain and fill for 2 years in a row (or twice in one year), and then repeat at the required mileage or time period. That's what I did with my 89 MX6 GT and the tranny never failed, even at 160,000 miles when I sold the car.

I'm doing the same with my Protg. At 100,000+ miles, it is performing, flawlessly. Why do anything else?

I do a drain/fill every 30k miles in mine and it seems to be doing well at 180k miles. Obviously, there is still plenty left behind so I was just curious if anyone else did any other tricks or just the normal drain/fill procedure listed in the mazda service manual.
