Automatic Headlights

I have a question about the automatic on/off headlights.
I currently drive a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox with this feature and I wanted to know how it worked in the 2016 CX-5 GT since I plan on buying one soon. For instance when you get out of the car at night do the exterior lights stay on for a period of time and shut off? Also when coming to the car at night when you press the unlock button on the key fob does that make the lights come on? My equinox does this and i've gotten pretty used to it.

It does the exact same thing on my 2016.
I work in the middle of nowhere, and really like walking out of the building in the dark and hitting the unlock button and the lights come on. It also helps that I replaced the interior lights with LED bulbs. Lots of threads here about doing it and it only cost like $15.
Also, I think you can go into the setting menu in the infotainment system and set how long the lights stay on and stuff, so if you don't want it on for long, or if you want it to stay on for 60 sec. or something.

The lights do stay on for a while when I shut the car off. I almost never push the unlock button on the key fob, that would require me to get the fob out of my pocket. I push the little button in the door handle, and yes, some lights come on, but I can't remember which ones.

Perfect thanks everyone. It really helps a lot in dark parking lots.
And Bambooben I plan on replacing all of the interior lights with LED bulbs, I did that on my equinox and it looks so much better and brighter.

Personally, I've never been able to get my headlights to turn on as I'm approaching the vehicle (getting into the car at night). They do stay on for about 30s after getting out at night. The only lights that turn on when getting into my car are the interior lights.

I'm not sure why but sometimes it doesn't work for me either. I feel like since I had the update done to my infotainment system at the dealer, it seem to work pretty much every time. I will try and start using it every night and test it.

Greetings all!!

So i just recently noticed this issue and I need some advice for anyone with this problem and possibly a solution.

Problem:
The headlights do not illuminate when I unlock the car using the fob key. The headlight setting is OFF.

What I know:
There is an option in the Infotainment called LEAVING HOME; the headlight will do what I want when unlocking the car, BUT the headlight switch has to be set for either ON or Turn signal indicator.

Goal:
Unlocking the car and having the headlights illuminate EVERY TIME without having the headlight switch set to ON.
I want to avoid having to do that extra step by keeping the headlight switch to ON or Turn signal setting.

I've tested the headlight setting at AUTO and OFF while unlocking the car and the headlights DO NOT illuminate.

Now I know I can just leave the headlight setting to on all the time, but I don't want the headlights on all the time while driving during the day time.

Is this possible at all? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Mine are always on, even the fogs(HID). I consider a safety thing and I don't have to deal with the lights at all. I have set them to turn off, after I stop the car.

Srad600 is correct. You can't get headlights to turn on as we're approaching the vehicle getting into the car at night. The only lights that turn on when getting into our car are the interior lights. The headlights do stay on for about 30 seconds after getting out at night. So unless you leave your headlights on all the time, there's no other alternative.

Damn, I had a feeling that was the case. Anyways, thank you all for your help.
Cheers!
