Well I havent done it yet but so many people post about it on here....

Who can tell me what its like? Is it worth an afternoon?

Also who wants to compare times? Post em up!

I was in my first autoX this past weekend actually. I had planned to make a post once the overall results get posted as they haven't been yet.

For me, it was a complete blast. For one thing, I was the only MP3 there so I got a LOT of attention...would have got even more but one guy had a WRX and at least here they are quite rare still.

We had around 40 competitors and altho we got started late from start to finish it lasted around 6 hours total including signups, technical inspections, course walkthroughs and the actual racing.

As this was my first time ever doing autoX and really ever "racing" my car in this sorta way, I didn't do the best...definitely not as good as dolphin and cjstringer have done, but I can say this....I posted an overall time better than the Subaru WRX, a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and a Porsche Boxster and they were all people who'd done autoX before, so I was pretty proud of my baby.

I'll post a more indepth story once I get the results from the perspective of someone who has never done it before.

I have another event this sunday. I'll let you know how it goes. It's not in my region, so I'm more into testing things, but it would be fun to win still. :) AND I get my K&N today. Can't wait. I know it's not major, I just like knowing it's in there.

Im asking you guys cuz like I said I havent done it before...would it be an idea to build a thread in here for guys to compare their times? Or who they beat?

Well they have the draft results up on the web site. Not as bad as it could have been but not as good either. I did not realize we had so many 10 ten national drivers at the event. I must have driven poorly since my daughter was only 3.5 seconds behind me. I'll to do better next time. I did win my class for the event and the series. I hope that every one else does better than I did.

Don't wait to get the results. Post your opinions first! The results are unimportant your first few times out. It's all about the experience. Let us know how it felt! what you were thinking, etc. (sounds like I'm asking about something else.)

I have been autocrossing for 35 years. I have driven nearly anything from an Austin Mini Cooper S to a Formula Ford in stock to Modified categories. I have done a little road racing, a little drag racing, a few stage Rallies as well as some motorcycle racing on a Ducati take your pick. I always come back to autocrossing.

The MP3 is a good street car, and a good autocross car. Its disadvantage is no power. Its advantage is that it is very balaced. The brakes and suspension work well together, you can carry a lot of speed through the turns and you can easily adjust your line with the steering, the brakes or the throttle pick one.

Sunday's course was not a good course for a car without power (see the write up and map on the web page). It was basicially a series of straight-a-ways with tight turns on each end. There were only a couple technical places that tested the rest of the car and the driver. It was not a bad course just not a very good one either. I spent a lot of time thing that a blue bottle in the trunk would make the course more interesting. Of course, my daughter would be angry with me if I hurt Dolphin.

I taught a couple of novices and they had fun which is the point. I drove one of the novice's 944 turbo and even with a pylon I was 2 seconds ahead of his time. I think I could cut another second or two off that with a little adjusting to the turbo lag. One of the really good things about the MP3 is that whatever power you have is available now.

On the whole, I had a good time. I really enjoyed working with the new people more than anything else.

That is all I can think of right now.
