If anyone is interested in trying autocross, come to the Renegade Miata Club autocross event on Saturday, August 2nd. I'll be there!

If you have never tried autocross, this is a great opportunity to do so! You will be driving at your car's limits and tossing it around and sliding it and what not. The courses are about a minute and a half long and these are pretty intense seconds! All novices welcome!

Day-of-event prices are: $35 if you a Renegade Miata club member, $40 if you are a member of Mass Miata Club, North Country Porsche Club, SCCA or Boston BMWCCA.

For your first event, if you want to try it, you don't have to become a member of any of the clubs. You can just pay the $40 "other club member" price on 8/2. If you like it and want to come to your 2nd event, you'll have to become a member somewhere.

Renegade Miata club is open for membership to all Mazdas. $25/yr and you can sign up on the spot.

There will be instructors to ride with you (the entire time, if you like). The instructors are awesome and you will learn a ton and improve a ton during the day. Loaner helmets are available.

More details: http://renegademiata.net/autocross.html

The event is located at near Ayer, MA, directions are in the link above.

Your car must be free of loose stuff, leave anything that's not bolted down at home. Bring sunscreen.

It's an all day event, gates opening at 7am and the event going until about 4:30pm. If you get there for 7:30-7:40am, chances are pretty good that you will get in easily without pre-registration.

You will get at least 6 runs, though 7 or 8 are more likely. Last time I went, I got 6 timed runs and 3 timed fun runs.

These events are a blast and you really learn a lot about how to control your car. Feel free to ask any questions.

I may be up for this one. What kind of proof for Mass Miata? I joined their website but never got anything.

What's the cost just to watch if we don't want to do the racing bit?

Dunno, e-mail Mass Miata to see if they have membership cards or some confirmation, or e-mail Renegade Miata autocross and ask them what they would accept.

Nothing at all! Just sign the waiver at the entrance.

Yeah, if you've never done the Loudon, NH event, do it.. it's the BMW CCA Advanced Driving Skills School and they do a wet skidpad with oversteer/understeer etc. I did it once and it was a great time and I learned a lot. Since I've already done the ADSS once, I'm doing the Renegade Miata autocross instead this time.

Link to the Boston BMW CCA Advanced Driving Skills School.

Thanks, Oleg!

I am gonna miss this one to as we will be in NYC that weekend.
Takin' the family to a game at Yankee stadium before the new one opens.

I think this might be a nice birthday present to myself and it's only about 25 miles from here.

Maybe I can get the new springs on the speed6 before I go and get a perfect setting to see how they will really handle in real world situations.

is this a mazda only event? I'm dying to go and I'd love to bring a friend.
Is your friend a member of any of the clubs above? (Mass Miata Club, North Country Porsche Club, SCCA or Boston BMWCCA) If so, he can just get in... if not, I think they allow a non-member to go one time, e-mail the autox chair at the e-mail address in the link above and ask.

Do it, you'll have a blast, it even doesn't matter what springs you have on the speed6, I guarantee that will be the last thing on your mind.

If anyone is going for sure, pre-register or let me know. If you pre-register, you will be guaranteed a spot (and will save $5). If you let me know that you will definitely be showing up, I can ask to have a spot reserved for you.

If you don't prereg and show up by 7:30-7:45, it's very very likely you'll get a spot anyways, but the more people they know are definitely coming, the more likely they'll switch to a wider-open course. The wider-open course requires more people to work the corners, hence the need for a count of people ahead of time.

Definitely pre-register! the more they know are coming, the bigger and more badass the course will be!

I will be there for the Aug 16th event.

(uhm) oleg, do you know if they have a "street tire open" class?
They have Miata classes of their own, and then everyone else uses the SCCA autocross class. I think you're street modified (having a turbo bumps you out of street touring).

I couldn't get into the BMW event ... So I think I'm going to come watch whats the turnout look like? JW...

i think I'm just going to watch. soak in all the info i can, its going to be the first autocross event ive attended.
