So my buddy's mom is selling his car, which happens to be the same year (2002) and color as mine (white). The difference is that his is a 5spd and mine is an auto. Okay so I would like to know If I should sell my car and buy his, and make about 1500 in my pocket.

The Info: details about each car

My car-
106,xxx miles
waxed at least 2x year
oil changed mobil 1 full synth. every 5-7,000 miles + purone filter
auto trans cooler
obx header
AEM short ram
65,000 mile maint. (trans flush, radiator flush, Bosch Plugs)
New front struts
100,000 mile (water pump, timing belt+tensioner, valvue cover gasket, new belts)
new battery < 3 months
new alternator < 3 months
new wind shield < 2 months
Only has one dent near roof rack the size of a baseball
Just put 4 new tires on last week
pretty much drive like a grandpa most of the time

His car-
120,xxx miles
needs tires
oil changed not as regular, with conventional
timing belt changed after it broke but did not replace tensioner so I believe it is about to go again
needs water pump ect.
driven pretty hard
Dont think the clutch has been replaced
Do not believe any of the 65,000 mile maint has been done
crack on the front bumper skirt (from being run into a ditch)
hasn't been waxed/cleaned as regular

So what do you guys think. I do all the work on my car so I know it is 100%
I am worried about the long long term reliabiltiy of the auto trans vs. the 5spd trans. I plan on keeping either car till the wheels fall of probably. But would it be worth the extra money I would make and the fun factor for the less of shape car?

take everything off your car and put it in the 5 speed... u seem like u like to do everything yourself so it might be a nice little project for you to get the car in shape

I think that swapping the bumper would take away value from my car when I sell it??? I dont know. The kbb value of my car is $5,135
and his is $3,720. As far as life of autos and when they start having troubles, is it further down the road or does it depend on many factors?

oh, E3 plugs were s*** by the way fyi, just saw that I have them in my print thing.

come to think of it, if it hasn't given you any trouble then why risk it?

especially since you know whos car your getting, you might get a little ticked off when something goes wrong soon.

i think your best bet would be to start saving up now and when your tranny finaly gives, just do a full MT swap

+1.

Or, if you want a REALLY fun project, buy hers, swap the trans in both cars, then sell hers.

Never mind guys she sold it already, for 3,200!!!!! (slamming head on key board). Im so mad at my self.

Looks like I will be looking into a Mazda 3 2.3 hatchback 5 spd. How are these cars compared to ours? I have driven the sedan 2.3 with tiptronic and it was pretty quick, at least compared to our cars.

I had no problem out of my p5 tell about 170k on the orig trans and motor.. It was just starting to slip at that mileage.... If your looking for big power out of these cars stick with the auto. I say this because you can get a built auto that can handle a good amount of power compared to a "built" standard...

If i had to do it all over again I would of just built my auto with a lenchtech then get my MSP. I ended up having to rebuild the trans in the MSP as well. lol

Well I still have the p5 due to financial and credit Reasons and couldn't get the 3. Oh well but I love my p5 and smoked a guy in a 3 wagon coming off the JTB to 9a overpass the other day haha ! And I have my drz400sm to keep me happy in the speed department.
