Auto climate control question

Hi, I am the new owner of a Mazda 3S GT of only a couple of days. I like the auto climate control system, but am wondering if there is a way to get it not to run the AC. After all, it is 40 degrees outside here, but when I push the AC button to turn i toff, the auto goes off as well. Can't we run the auto mode without the AC? I read in the manual something about an AC ECO mode, (presumably this is an economy mode), but can't figure out how to do this either.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: do a search of the forum. This has been discussed at length with no viable resolution (yet).
