Auto Climate Control/Chaos

It caught my eye in the MS6 vs. TXS thread that another poster saw fit to gripe about the auto climate control feature. It is truly bizarre the way it operates at least now in the cool weather. I'm hoping it is at least functional in the hot TX weather in a few months. Even on manual the temps are way off.

Mind you, I love driving this car (knocking on wood in the hope the Fates continue to smite only others and not me with the power loss problem). And I won't be any less happy driving it just because I have to manually set the temp + or - minus 10 degrees of where I really want it to be. But it ain't "having our cake and eating it too" to want features that function something like they're expected to.

Does anyone else's auto or manual cc work normally? If not, has anyone complained to a dealer about it and gotten it fixed? I was reading in a Suburu forum about a similar problem that the poster was able to get corrected by changing out some sensors or some such. Maybe there's a similar fix for us.

Um, does the MS6 even have "Auto CC"? From my experience it just blows air at the temperature you set it to... There doesn't seem to be anything Automatic about it. If it's supposed to work some other way please let me know. It'd be nice if it had some sort of intelligence to it.

I never seen a auto climate that was remotely accurate on any vehicle. most I know with 6s or 6i with acc said this and even on my other car auto climate in the winter turns on A/c at full blast.

Then you've never driven a TSX. Its ACC is smart enough even to turn on/off the A/C when it doesn't need it. I guess I got spoiled.

nope can't say I've driven a Honda vehicle.

I don't bother using the auto setting in the winter anymore since it just fogged the s__t out of my windows. It was so bad during a cold spell that there was more ice on the inside of the windows in the morning than there was on the outside...LOL!

Now that I just run it on manual everything is alright.

Lately it's been in the low to mid-40s in the morning when I first start up the car. I have a 30-minute commute. As I'm becoming more used to the climate control system, this strategy has worked well enough for me:

I manually set the climate control temp at 84, mode to face/feet, vent mode to fresh, and fan speed OFF, A/C OFF. When the engine has warmed up enough to not blow cold air, I set the fan at "2" and open and aim the 3 vents closest to me (left, center-left, center) for comfort. The other 2 vents (center-right, right) are completely closed.

When my hands/face are warmed up enough, I just close all the vents, and change nothing else. After my feet are comfortably warm, I shut off the fan.

If it's still too warm with the fan off, I switch to RECIRC vent mode.

I haven't touched the temp control in a week!

Good call brother. I'll try this approach tomorrow!

I have found that if you put it in automatic mode and just don't touch anything but the temp. knob that it works fine. I think it even shifts the "where it's blowing" mode for you, if you're running heat, it blows down and defrost. It also seems to increase fan speed after you've been driving for a minute or so.

As for the fogging problem mentioned earlier, the manual says if you run the heater on recirc mode it will do that.

I haven't used the a/c yet really.
