Auto and Synthetics Tranny Fluid?

Yeah, for years...

I have been putting Mobil1 synthetic in transaxles for years. It does wonders for synchros in manuals. I put Mobil1 ATF in the automatic transaxle in my Saturn and it changed the way the thing shifited. In normal mode you could feel the shifts where you couldn't before and in performance mode, it made it shift much harder. It would even break the tires loose on the 1-2 shift. I got rid of the car with 134,000 miles on it and the trans is still breaking the tires loose from a dead stop and on the 1-2 shift. I recently put Mobil1 ATF in my '97 Civic and it firmed up the shifting of that transaxle, but not as much as it did on the Saturn. The Civic's shift mapping is much smoother than the Saturn's. I don't know why it made so much difference, but I suspect that the Mobil1 increases the pumping pressure a bit and this makes the shifting a bit firmer. Jim

I have noticed on my '02 P5 when its cold that there is a definite notch, clunk, etc. going up to 2nd. Wonder if lighter synthetic would solve that problem. I think there is 70-90w in it now.
Anybody running lighter synthetic in manuals.

a lot of people have changed to redline MT-90 its suppose to be great. i plan on doin the change soon. i know they have it for sale on the www.tripointengineering.com website no prices so i emailed them an i am waiting for there response. I woud have already done it but i am awaitng warrenty work on my transmission so it would be waste full to put it in if they are jsut gonna drain it anyways. I hear it runs around 9$ a qt. and should use about 4 qts. do a search on red line manual transmission fluid you will prob get some goos info.

Red Line ATF Improve torque converter efficiency for better shifting especially under extreme conditions of heat and cold.

does synthetic fluid ease shifting at -30 degrees? With conventional fluid it is almost impossible to, since it is way too thick.

I used Redline MTL in my '94 RX7's 5 speed - it was kind of notchy straight off the boat, but with the Redline, the shifts smoothed out quite a bit. I imagine their ATF would be good too. Actually, at some point, I'll probably put the MTL in my P5's 5 speed too. (has anyone done that here?)

Peace & blessings...
