I'm hoping someone might have some insight into this. I have a 2005 Mazda3s (not MS) with a completely stock audio system: standard HU, standard speakers, single CD player, no changer/MD/satellite. A few days ago, I started noticing problems with the sound quality, which up until then was fine. Now, bass-heavy sections sound very muddy, particularly if the music involves some level of distortion effects to begin with. Higher and mid-range tones are fine.
The same thing happens with the radio or CD player, so I don't think it's an antenna thing, and it doesn't seem to be limited to a particular speaker.
Any ideas what might be going on? I'm not much for audio stuff. I'm frustrated because I'd been hoping to add a line-in so that I can hook up my MP3 player to the head unit (I don't have a factory aux jack), but I don't want to do that until I figure out the problem.
Also, is there a reputable place in the L.A. area for car audio repair?
