Attn: Big guys and Miata

Looking to buy a project car and I am considering a Miata but I have concerns with my size and the car.

6'3'' 210ish 33inch waist.

Other consideration is a LT1 RX7.

33" is not such a big waist. You may have trouble with the height. You'd definately need a racing seat, probably bolted to the floor, all the way back.

There's much more room in an FC. I've had both.

I am 6'2 240ish and I drove a 93' miata just fine. But then I got into a new on and my head stuck out an inch over the top. But if you get a racing seat to the floor you should be more than fine.

Your weight should be just fine. My brother is 260ish and he rides in mine without problems...although I prefer it when he doesn't.

Best thing to do would be to go for a few test drives with the top up and then down and see how everything feels.

I sat in the new MX-5 at a dealership and I was surprised by how much leg room was in there. I had to move it up 2 notches closer from the farthest back position. And I'm six foot. So you should be good.

My impression is the newer ones were bigger. I can fit in the new guy. Edit: Of course the top was down at the dealer.

I'm more worried about the 96-97 era. I like sitting up a little close I feel like I have better control over the car and the pedals.

Its hard to find one to sit in around here... I'll have to trek around in order to find one and I don't want to start bothering guys until I can say to them "I'll take it." Finances are almost in order.

I was 6'0 220lbs with a 36 inch waist (I slimmed down to 180lbs thankfully) and I fit into a miata just fine.

I'm 6', 200lbs and I have no problems with my NB, the NA seemed to have a little bit more room. I think the length of the legs are more important. I have a longer body so my legs are comfortable, my father has longer legs than I and he starts running out of room under the dash.

NC>NA>NB at least in terms of interior room. The NB's are kind of cramped inside, especially if you've got wide shoulders. I don't, and I find my Dad's NB kinda cramped.

Hmm interesting, I'll have to make a trip to the dealership... I'm bigger then I used to be so if I still fit in an NB then hopefully the NA will be a little more comforting. Foolish do you know your jacket size? I wear a 46-7.

Jacket size? I have no idea. I'm 5'11", 178 ish. I'm acutally not a big guy, but I've been around Miatas and Miata owners a lot, and generally people complain that the NB is kind of cramped. I had an NA, my Dad had two NA's and now has an NB and my father-in-law has an NC.

I'm not super scrawny, but I'm far from burly and I find the NB cramped around the shoulders, just FYI. Clearly, you need to go try some on!
