im still waiting for white apreciation month myself. we have black history month where we celibrate the contributions of the african american's have made for this contry. what about white history month? or should we break it down into ethnic groups, polish, italians, germans, french, jewish, british ect.??

yea it pisses me off! i went to the PX yesterday and was trying to find an ArmyTimes newspaper but i couldnt find it amongst the 7, yes 7 (i counted) all black publications. then i got lost in the Spanish publications (prevelant here because were so close to mexico, err...i mean texas). i have no problem with any race, even iraqis, or any religion at all, but maybe, just maybe this equality thing is just messed up. i mean i was reading one college on a scale of like 100 they gave people 20 points for being black and only a maximum of 7 points for SAT scores and written essay competition...:wtf: is that bulls***? my best friend since 2nd grade was a great guy...we both went to university of pittsburgh (sup craig ), but i paid cash and he got a free ride, because he applied to the black only scholarship (cant remember the name)...i was incredibly happy for him, since he wouldnt have been able to go to school otherwise, but i had to drop out later because i couldnt afford to go anymore AND work. i looked all around for the all-white scholarship, but damned if i couldnt find it.

again, i am not interested in race debates or anything...but i dont believe in this over-equality bulls***. how about jonas salk day? he is the cause for never really having to worry about polio again!

some holidays are just stupid...take columbus day for example - that jackass navigates like a butter bar lieutenant and ends up in the wrong ******* place like 5 times, is a total tyrant to his "help" IIRC, and we grant him a ******* holiday?!!?

hahaha, yeah I have a way of throwing my own "spin" onto things. If you think about we're still pretty much on topic. It's a stupid holiday that shouldn't exsist but it does because someone told us we have to kiss ass on this day every year. I don't really have much response to this....just wanted to see it highlighted so I could make sure I was reading it right. If I was an "assuming" type person I'd assume you don't know anyone black or have any perception of what they deem important. Some of my black co-workers even took a personal day from work today to go to MLK day events.....there are parades, celebrations, parties, speeches, gatherings, etc. over about every inch of my town. It doesn't appear you have any conception of what MLK meant to black people or still mean to them today so I can understand why you think this. If you can find someone black in your town just ask them these questions and see what response you get. There's an MLK street in every town for a reason......and it's not one person going around getting it done....it's an entire nation of black people paying tribute and giving "credit" as you say. Wow...I guess I really had more to say after all.

And for those of you talking about BET, etc. and that a white only TV channel would cause outrage.....all I can say is......"DO YOU WATCH TV EVER????" All the other channels ARE "white TV"......they just have names like NBC and ABC. I mean are you guys joking????

naw.....it's not gonna get ugly on my end.....what I'm saying is all the other channels show programming with a majority of whites.......most networks are "white TV" by default.........watch any of the big 3 networks during prime time over the past 50 years and count the minorities......I doubt if you need to even use 2 hands....lol. This isn't something that's my "opinion"....this is cold fact. Do a search in Google if you have any doubt of this or I'll be happy to provide URL's for the "searching challenged".

Well frankly i hate pc s*** too. Though i respect MLK day. The sad thing is that it used to be Lee/Jackson day, and as much as i disagree with that culture, i'm kinda pissed that the opposing culture got the right to abolish one culture's holiday to be replaced with another.

MLK, like Ghandi, was a great civil rights leader, Al Sharpton is a ******* idiot. I don't think anyone should have a "month", but i think we should do a better job publicly to encompass people's hisotry and do a more fair job at recognizing stuff.

The idea of "white history" month or White Entertainment television as an equal and opposite wrong, is just fucken silly. #1-- b/c its the same evil, #2--b/c whites in america don't have a common culture and we're not united under anything except nationalism. White culture is American culture, something that blacks, Hispanics, and everyone else takes part in and forms subcultures within

But its nice that you celebrate Easter, a pagan fertility holiday that Christians stole to represent the death of Christ. Even many Christians don't celebrate that holiday for that reasoning.

So if the government is required to recognize your cultural holiday (that some people might be sick of) why are you bitching about them recognizing a culture that you're not a part of?? Superiority/majority complex again?? tisk tisk. Religious recognition is no different than racial recognition, gender recognition and sexual preference recognition.

IMO, the government and corporations have no place endorsing, sponsoring, or degrading/discriminating against any of these culture.


My personal opinion Lee/Jackson/King day (the transitionairy period to just MLK day, was a good move, representing southern leaders of opposing cultures together.

The only thing Im truly sick of, is that there are other amazing blacks out there other than King, X (who I think is a bigot but thats me), and rosa parks And they never get any light b/c MLK is held up like the black Christ.

Why should I be harrassed because of something someone elses ancestors did? FWIW, my family started off in america about 80 years ago. We didn't own slaves, support slavery, or join the Klan.

You shouldnt be harassed about your ancestors anymore than blacks should be harassed under anti-pc and/or bigoted s***.

I too agree on the reparations issue.....but that's a small vocal minority of people spouting off about that. Reparations don't make any sense.......I mean all it would be would be taking the tax $$$ that has been paid by not only whites but by blacks, asians, hispanics, europeans, etc who never even lived here during slave time and giving it to people who were never enslaved. Doesn't make any sense to me.

That's just stupid. When I was growing I lived down the street from the "hood". Every night I would go to bed hearing gun shots, police sirens, yelling, ambulances etc.....It made me VERY aware of how other people live. Now I have a bit more money (not because of hand-outs) and I've moved into a "nicer" part of town. There are less black people in my community now, but they are everywhere you go in this town. No'one moves to alabama escape blacks. Thats stupid. I have more "ethnic" friends than white friends FYI. We laugh and cut up about stereotypes. My friends are educated. They aren't the typical MTV rapper blacks. They actually know their history, they understand what an honor it is to be here and to have the oppurtunities they have. They don't take stuff for granted. Now I admit that being in the south people tend to come across as racist rednecks because most of them are uniformed and what little information they have is skewed by an elder telling them about the way it used to be. It's a sad point in history, but we've corrected our ways and we've moved on. It could've been just as easy for Abe Lincoln to abolish slavery and put everyone back on a boat to Africa, but he didn't. He knew we needed all sorts of different people to advance into the great nation we are today. Did newly freed slaves get a fair shake?? At first, no. However, every child born free does have that chance at greatness. It all depends on how badly you want it. Nowadays it seems like crime, rapping and sports is the only thing young blacks care about excelling in. It's a shame that they think temporary fame is all this country has to offer.

My original argument was that this is a waste of a holiday. There is no need to set a day aside to highlight this when the people that really DO care about should be celebrating it every damn day. Also, about renaming the day to MLK day....I forgot all about that. I guess their plan worked to make us forget part of history because it wasn't a shining example of rightousness. If it's not complimentary it can't be a fact. I guess since the Germans aren't happy about the Holocaust they should change that time period to "Happy Day". Maybe they'll forget about it and we can move on and not learn from our mistakes.


As for the TV networks being all white.: whatever!! UPN is all black, BET is all black, Telemundo is all spanish, etc..... Next time a commercial comes on TV tell me who they're catering to. Next time you see a Mc Donalds commerical tell me what kind of music they're playing, what phonetical annunciation they're using, what "trends" they're using....it's insane. When my 54yr old dad knows who "OutKast" is there is entirely too much hip hop on tv. I feel that ebonics and "black culture" is being forced on me when I watch tv. Notice when someone talks about strides made with blacks they aren't talking about Africa....advancements are made here....in America. In Africa there's nothing but death, disease, and famine. The "black culture" is here in America. It may have started in africa, but it hasn't advanced ANY since the time of slavery.



I'm done. I'm not angry or offended by any of this. I just think it's funny how you "yanks" call me close-minded or a racist for not seeing your point of view, yet you don't see mine. whoa....I'm not touching this.....but please look at my post above.....I didn't call you any of those things. I just said that "if I were to assume" then I'd assume you didn't know anyone black....I don't really know you enough to make any such determinations. I just know black people and I can tell you that some of the assumptions you've made about blacks and their culture don't appear to have been formed with a high amount of personal exposure to black people.......more like MTV and COPS.

UPN and BET all black ... while air only channels are majority white, cable has 70+ channels, "digital cable" is about 300-400 channels, and sattelite is more than that.. what the hell are you complaining about?

And yeah there's alot of blacks who do aspire to be sportsmen and music stars, but have to been to a major university lately? or a tech school? have a look around, blacks are aspiring in this country too... Yeah the stereotype of the lazy black in the ghetto not escaping the poverty cycle is backed up by statistics, but you're applying stereotypes and generalizations to an entire culture and the individuals within.


I think we need to be reminded how great the civil rights equality is, but i also think we need to use it to regear motivation, rather than continuing the white vs. black finger pointing, crying like a two year old about who has it worse..
