I read that today also.......It shouldnt be faster since its got the drivertrain loss, maybe heads up yes but from a roll no way!

it was only .2-.3 seconds slower than us in the 1/4, the extra 40hp should make it dead even or a tad faster than us

i still don't think it will handle as well as our car tho.

Yeah, it may have the increased power, but the handling still sucks and will always suck. No Swaybars FTL!

I am surprised that companies are finally encouraging manuals more out here!

The problem is that it still all speculation. If you didnt notice noone ever proved that it wasnt a sick joke that someone conjured up on microsoft word. Either way it dosent hurt my feelings. I am truly happy with the purchase that I have made.

WTF are you talking about? Even the 08 had the same size front sway bar as the older-style 02-07 WRX's, and had a decent sized rear sway bar (just not big enough). With the 08, it was all about the super soft springs that made it so floppy in the handling department. Also, everyone always overlooks that the WRX comes with all season tires from the factory, where the MS3 and most performance oriented cars that magazines test come with high performance summer tires...This can make a huge difference alone in handling numbers...With the possible new suspension upgrade, the WRX has the potential to handle very well, with or without summer rubber from the factory...

Not sure about that. I used to autocross quite frequently with a local Scooby club with my S2000 and a few of them were running faster times than I was and I would consider myself an intermediate driver. Granted, most, if not all of them were modified, but their handling doesn't necessarily "suck". You have to know how to drive them though.

I hope some of you guys saying it would suck to have bought an 08 WRX now that the 09's WRX have more power are going to create the same thread in a few years when the next MS3 will have more power then the existing MS3.

There's no way one car can be the king of the hill for more then a few years.... the competition will do whatever it takes to be the new King of the Hill. True story.

exactly. some people need to get off their high horse and stop taking this s*** so personal.

I still think the 08's look like ass. just look at the difference...

I was also a subie owner and i loved mine but even if it came with 350 hp i still wouldn't want one. The main thing that sucks about a subie is that EVERYONE has one. Im my complex alone i see 5 everyday.

A few years, yes, but when a new body style comes out for '08 and then a much faster, upgraded car comes out 1 year after that for the same, or close to, the same money, the owners of the '08s are gonna feel a little bit shafted. That's the point of the post.

So now that it's making as much power as the MS3, rather than being down by about 20%, it's still going to be slower than our car? Because of a (perhaps) 5% difference in drive train loss?

I think we'll still pull on it from a roll because of weight issues, but if it's putting out 265HP, that's going to be ~220HP to the wheels, which is about what we make. And without having its power limited in first and second, and with a traction advantage from AWD, it'll probably take us by 2/10ths in a 1/4.

Come on guys, lets not let our love of our car put blinders on for us.

a couple/few years sure, but 08 was a redesign and now 1 yr later they increase the power and re tune the suspension?

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt they carry over the SAME 5 speed transmission fron the previous generation? Isint that the weakest part of the previous generation wrx's? If so I am concerned about the same tranny and how it will handle the new found power. Dont get me wrong I am not bashing on subies, I think its great that all the auto makers are stepping up the competition. That means my NEXT generation MS3 might be a 400hp AWD beast LOL I keep praying LOL

I hope the new tranny has been beefed up some, the last gen tranny was made of popsicle sticks and elmer's glue.

They couldn't afford to wait any longer for this update. 08 WRX owners are getting screwed...all 5 of them. So, I can see why Subaru isn't hesitating to make some adjustments to generate more sales.

The new upgrade makes this car worth the difference in price over the MS3. You are paying for AWD and an engine that is more friendly towards mods. That engine is tuner proven in the long run...this engine is not. Right now I'm afraid to do anything at all to this car from some of the stories on this forum. The 1/4 mile would be a drivers race between these two cars, but I think the WRX would win most of the time due to being easier to launch.
