Hi everyone, i have a chance to get a used ap for under $200, but the thing is that it needs the $295 license from cobb to doing any flashing. Can the ap still monitor or do any further functions until i get the license. Is this worth it.

Thanks

Eh, so basically 500 bucks when you think about it. Up to you, but you'll probably be waiting around a while to get your AP back from Cobb. i believe you have to send it to them, they do something to it, and then send it back. You could probably find a divorced AP within that time frame for around 500 bucks. Unless you can work the seller to drop it another 100 I would just try finding another one.

I can actually get it for $150. The only thing that sucks I would have to wait a couple of weeks before I could get the license. Short on funds. I was originally looking into getting a dashhawk and found the ap. I can get either one for the same price, but not sure if the ap is worth it compared to the dashhawk, without the license. I know the ap is great once I get the license, but can it do anything until I get the license, such as monitor engine.

Who'd he steel it from?

I have no idea. The guy said he bought it from someone else like that. If it was stolen will I have any issues with getting it licensed from Cobb. I really do not care about were it came from as long as it works and I can get the license for it. Also no one seems to know if what I can do with it without the license, such as monitor or remove check engine lights. Any advice. Because I may just go with the dashhawk instead, same price.

As soon as you plug it in, it checks to see if you have it installed (married). So if its not installed on your car then no you will not be able to use it to monitor.

Also if the AP has been reported stolen to Cobb then I am pretty sure they will not license it. You have to send it in to get relicensed so you might not get it back.

Ok the guy I have talked with said it is not married to any car. It just can't flash without the license. You brought up a good point about it being stolen. I do not want to but something that Im not going to get any use out of. Im not sure what to do at this point. Can I just hook it up to my car before i buy it and see if it will read the car, so that way it can monitor the engine until get the license if i go thru with the buy. thanks

If he'll let you hook it up then I would try it, but I am 90% sure that when it boots up it will ask if you want to install it, though that is when it has a license so not sure whats going to happen when you plug it in.

Ok so I talked with the guy further (and called Cobb on the serial number not stolen) and got all the details. It came from a someone with a Speed6 that never unmarried the car when he sold it. So it does need the license from Cobb for $395, ouch!!, but I did get the ap and greddy type rs blow off value (rec.) for $230. I thought it was a good deal so I jumped all over it. i did hook it up before I bought it and it does monitor everything. I checked rpms and mph and they very even with what the tack and speedo read. Also checked other things like fuel psi, boost, and so on. Everything worked.
