02 LX
I plan on lowering my 02 LX soon, but i'm stuck as to what to get. Just coilovers? Just Springs? Full coilover system? Springs and struts? IDK where to go. But i was just wondering what does everyone on the forums have. Maybe you all could list what you have, and talk about the quality of the ride. I know this will help not only me, but other people in the future. Thanks.

02 protege 5
h&r progressive springs 1.5 drop all around
stock bulls*** mazda shocks
18x7.5 gracing sekis with 35 series tires (48mm offset)

ride is stiff as hell and i can feel every little bump

love the drop
if i did it all over again
same springs 17x7.5 rims with 45s on em
and 5 way shocks. -=P

2002.5 protege5 with Eibach Prokit on Tokico HP struts. 17x7.5 volks with 215/40/17 tires.

The ride is definitely stiff, however the car handles much better than stock. The Eibachs aren't as stiff as H&Rs. The HP Struts do a really nice job. I drove around on the stock struts for a long time, and the Tokico's are a world of difference. I would recommend this setup if you don't have a lot of cash to spend.

thanks guys, this really helps. I plan on lowering my car, and here in Hawaii, we have to pass this thing called Recon. And the ride has to be a certain height in order to pass. And i don't want to get something, not pass recon, and not be able to readjust the height myself. But i want something non-adjustable, because once i pass recon, i plan on keeping the car at that height. However, if there are coilovers with a good ride, i'll get those too.

I know there's A LOOOOOT more people with dropped cars on here, so post up what you use.......please? (thumb)

One of the "Mildest" drops around is the springs from Racing Beat. About $195.00 brand new, and drops you 3/4" in front, 7/8" in back. The rates are advertised as "28% firmer" than stock. They are actually the same springs from the MP3 project car, although Mazda ended up using their regular supplier in the end. I have them, the ride is very tolerable, and you don't have to drive different in regards to driveways, speedbumps, etc. Buddy has Ground Control coilovers on his P5, 275LB in front, 400LB in rear. He can whip me in auto-x, but talk about rough riding. Yikes!

I'm on my stock wheels with Tein S tech's 1.5/1.8" drop. I rode with my stock struts for almost 2 years and they were getting bouncy. I just switched to Tokico Illuminas and am extremely happy (albeit somewhat broke).

You should be able to do a semi-agressive drop >1.5" and last on your stock struts for anywhere between 18-24 months.

got the skunk 2 coilovers on my mp5. i guess you can go down at least 3 in but i only got it down about 2.0 inch in front and 1.8 in the back. im saving up for some struts. anybody know how much it is for a set of four tokico's?

how low are you allowed to go?

I have eibach springs on my car, the ride quality is awesome and it lowered it just enough to look good, but not so low to the point where I cant drive it without scraping.

however, i'ma just make it like that for the test, than as soon as i pass, i'm gonna lower her some more.

is that car specific? B/C I can imagine a LOT of sports cars(350Z, Corvette, NSX, RX8) not passing with 2" of gap.

2"?? Damn... that's a lot. You'd probably have to stick with MSP springs... they'll drop you 0.75" from stock.

I'm pretty sure every car has to have that 2" gap. Unless it comes stock height like that, than i wouldn't know.

It's not a 2" gap, it's 2" of movement up and down in your suspension. I've got Ground controls with stock struts and failed because it wouldn't travel the 2". Center of the headlight has to be 21" from the ground, fogs 12" and bottum of license plate 12". Good luck with Recon because it's a focken waste of time and money! I've been without it for 3 years and no problems with cops. Just don't go Speed racing around and you shouldn't get hasselled.

got eibachs on a p5 here, stock struts, 17x7 GT sports 205/40/17 tires, ride is not stuff nuff but some people say its too harsh,

Thanks for the correction. And as for the racing, i gots me an automatic, so my ideas on the car are more towards looks rather than racing. Also, all the cracking down the cops are doing on racing, no good i tell you. Stupid people racing ruin it for everyone else.

Yeah ain't that the truth! Make us suffer for other stupiditty. You ought to find someone with an MSP and try to buy their suspension parts.

my friend has a blue sedan exactly like yours. he has skunk2's slammed. looks nice :)

dont go for recon... i can send u all the rules if u want

is it the rules on forumshawaii? I seen those, and still am not too clear on certain things. Like Pedals, why does that matter? or stickers too. sooo horrible i tell you. And i think i'ma get the eibach suspension package from racingextreme. The one with the tokico shocks, for 500 something??
