Anyone put a Moonroof in their 2010 MS3 yet?

I thought not having one would start to bother me..... its only been 3 months.... well see.

I thought the same exact same thing...and was right. All it took was a week straight of gorgeous sunny days for me to throw in the towel. It's just too dingy inside without all the extra light. It's AMAZING how much brighter then entire cabin is afterwards!

If you don't mind me asking, how expensive was it? I have the exact same MS3 as you do and this is very enticing.

Edit: Nevermind, you already answered me on youtube. Thanks man!

Yeah, I mentioned it on the YouTube thread that it came in just under $1100 after some negotiating. That was originally supposed to be the price before tax and some other fees but I worked if down if they really wanted the business.

Most people that haven't cared for it have been people who claim 1 of 3 things...1) it will eventually leak, 2) it was too expensive, or 3) it's the equivalent of strapping 2 car batteries to the worst possible place on the car. I understand every one of those reasons and wouldn't blame anyone who's purely performance oriented in the mods, as $1100 could buy a wicked amount of mods for anyone's MS3.

In the end, for me personally it all just boiled down to wishing they'd had a moonroof in the car from the start. I'm not too worried about performance for the MS3, as I get those kicks from the vette. And as far as leaks go, a lifetime warranty on parts AND labor makes me feel pretty dang safe about any complications that could arise from it. Lastly, the price was a lil on the steep side but it seemed justified considering how i'll have it and be able to enjoy it for the lifetime of the car.

Yeah I ran a test similar to that of the 5-minute test many manufacturers do. Using a power sprayer from 2 feet out sweeping the whole surface.

Hardly any drip, and anything that managed to drip through made it into the catch basin that runs out one of the 4 corners of drain tubes. It's standard that manufactures make a drainage system for any inboard moonroofs now. Nothing out of the ordinary. Further more, we got drilled with rain today and still no problems. Looks like a solid job.

Factory sunroofs are not watertight either, it is impossible to make them watertight that is why there are drains in all four corners. They always have had drains, my 88 and 89 Accord LXIs had drains, I had to clean them out more than once.

I have a 2010 3GT sport with sunroof, a sunroof is mandatory on any car I own.

Pat.

i really like it... only thing that i see in the photos is a loss of like 3 inches (?) in the head room?

I was always under the impression they didnt offer one because they were looking for the most ridged frame possible.

Same here, according to what I heard, its doesnt have a sunroof to increase the rigidity of the chassis... It wouldve been cool to have one, but I can live without it TBH...

The front headroom loss is NO MORE then about an inch tops. And that's even being generous...it might actually be closer to a 1/2" where you're head actually sits. I wouldn't doubt a 2 to 2 1/2" headroom loss in the back, but it's hardly noticable at all in the front.

The one part of it, if anything, that I don't like is how they have to use what's known as a "floating headliner" for the new headliner. They do re-line the whole headliner with new material, but due to the recess where the moonroof slides back into, they have to cut out parts of the original headboard (this is expected, if you think about it). However, when putting up the new headliner, since there are holes in the headboard that had to be cut out to allow for the moonroof-recess area in the liner, they create the "floating headliner". This is simply a term that coins how the liner goes up tight around the map lights, then is stretched tight all the way to the side rails. The liner is then actually "floating", hence the name...vs. a liner that is glue directly to the headboard. It's not a huge deal, but it just leaves a few spots in the liner where you can physically push the headliner up (because of the void created when the cloth was stretched). You cannot tell that any of those areas are there unless you push on the liner tho, so the point is actually kind of moot.

Reguardless, the selling point for me was the lifetime warranty on BOTH parts and labor. Since the installer has been around since the mid-70s, I don't fear they'll be going out of business anytime soon. 90% of their work is new-car dealers, so it seemed like a safe bet to me.

It's funny how often i've heard this debate about sunroofs, but after seeing the actual installation process, it put my mind at ease. There is actually extra bracing added to correctly install a sunroof, therefore it actually makes the roof support MORE ridge due to the extra bracing that was added. True, it's more weight then before, but due to that extra weight, bracing has to be added to support the extra lbs.

After almost 2 months, I wonder how I ever did without! It's been absolutely awesome to have on all of these nice days. Even when it's been too crappy to have the roof open, just getting light through it at all has been extremely noticable. It just makes the whole cabin feel more...enjoyable.

I'll be the first to admit that it was a steep price, but I'd do it again if I had the choice. It's all about personal preference tho...some people don't value moonroofs. Not so surprisingly, it's usually those that have them and never use them. To everyone their own though. I personally don't see the point of touching the engine, exhaust or springs in this car...but again, everyone's different.
