i really like it... only thing that i see in the photos is a loss of like 3 inches (?) in the head room?
I was always under the impression they didnt offer one because they were looking for the most ridged frame possible.
The front headroom loss is NO MORE then about an inch tops. And that's even being generous...it might actually be closer to a 1/2" where you're head actually sits. I wouldn't doubt a 2 to 2 1/2" headroom loss in the back, but it's hardly noticable at all in the front.
The one part of it, if anything, that I don't like is how they have to use what's known as a "floating headliner" for the new headliner. They do re-line the whole headliner with new material, but due to the recess where the moonroof slides back into, they have to cut out parts of the original headboard (this is expected, if you think about it). However, when putting up the new headliner, since there are holes in the headboard that had to be cut out to allow for the moonroof-recess area in the liner, they create the "floating headliner". This is simply a term that coins how the liner goes up tight around the map lights, then is stretched tight all the way to the side rails. The liner is then actually "floating", hence the name...vs. a liner that is glue directly to the headboard. It's not a huge deal, but it just leaves a few spots in the liner where you can physically push the headliner up (because of the void created when the cloth was stretched). You cannot tell that any of those areas are there unless you push on the liner tho, so the point is actually kind of moot.
Reguardless, the selling point for me was the lifetime warranty on BOTH parts and labor. Since the installer has been around since the mid-70s, I don't fear they'll be going out of business anytime soon. 90% of their work is new-car dealers, so it seemed like a safe bet to me.
Same here, according to what I heard, its doesnt have a sunroof to increase the rigidity of the chassis... It wouldve been cool to have one, but I can live without it TBH...
It's funny how often i've heard this debate about sunroofs, but after seeing the actual installation process, it put my mind at ease. There is actually extra bracing added to correctly install a sunroof, therefore it actually makes the roof support MORE ridge due to the extra bracing that was added. True, it's more weight then before, but due to that extra weight, bracing has to be added to support the extra lbs.
