um, yeah....thats my car lol its the Kenwood MP919
It probably is because most Mazdas came with it, but it can also be any of Kenwood's D-Mask line [2001-2004ish]. I had the eXcelon KDCx917 pre-mp3 capable.
If you're looking into getting one, just stay away from the 3d-masks.

no, not "it probably is" lol that is a picture of my car that I took....so i know its my car ;)

what is wrong with the mask series? that is the feature i am looking for,
any insight would be appreciated.

more moving parts = more s*** to go wrong. the ribbon cables on the ones equipped in the msp would go out and have to be replaced.

How do you know that's your car Taylor? I need proof!!!

That just proves you stole the pic the guy found. I need a sign dated. lol

Sorry, i be'z a bad instigator

they may, but you have to be prepared that something could go wrong. i mean theres a motor needed to flip it around, the ribbon cable etc... issue might be one of the reasons kenwood and others stopped selling those types. But i still love it hahahaha

ya i had a sony one long ago, and I thought it was great.
but as you say there must be a reason they dont sell them anymore.

I had one in my P5 for about a year before it took a dump. There is a fix for it, but it's not too easy, and it will most probably break again in time. Still I agree... they are pretty neat and look very clean when closed.

My "it probably is" was just a segway to talk about the DMask line. I was pretty sure it was a 919 and yes evilm you would know especially because it's your car that was in the picture(spin), but again without having the face flipped over it could have been ANY of the Kenwood's Dmask line.

The dmask's are great radios but the do have a LOT of issues, I've had three the KDCx917, KDC519 and the 919. I got my 919 at Best Buy for another car and I've had it fixed 4 times for the ribbon or the internal power supply go bad. The 917 and 519 both got new ribbons replaced fixed at a shop in San Jose, CA that fixes them about 3xs each.

Side note: JVC also had there version called "Kameleon", which they've REintroduced as "El Kameleon". Same idea as the Dmask of "hiding" what you really have but the radio display is completely smooth and just blacks out when it's off.
