Anyone Installed the Mazdaspeed 3 Coilover Kit?

I recently fitted the Mazdaspeed lowering springs and I'm not happy with the new set-up! The stock dampers are not doing a good job at damping out oscillations in the springs so the car feels like it is bouncing up and down after each bump.

I'm thinking of fitting the Mazdaspeed 3 coilover kit - does anyone have this on their mazdaspeed 3?

What is the ride quality like? Handling? Does it still have the stock 'flat' feel? I'm assuming they are progressive rate springs?

I see another member has fitted the H&R coilovers would this be a better option to the Mazdaspeed kit?

i have a few guys down under running the coilovers with very positive results on thier ms3

So how many adjustments do these have? You can also raise and lower the ride height as well, correct? Im interested in a set when the " check " arrives.. Ive got a shopping list for you Ken.(lol)

Just to let you all know, there is a group buy for MazdaSpeed coilovers for the speed going on on the other forum. Still expensive, but a damn decent price compared to list. If you want them, get them now. I'm signed up - can't wait.

Just to let you all know, I've had the MS coilover kit on my car for a month now and I love the new set-up. I'm very happy with the decision to go to full coilovers a night and day difference to the soft stock set-up.

Best part is I have been able to adjust front and rear compression and rebound rates over time to find a ride comfort that I am very happy with along with a stiffer, lower and very flat ride. I've just ordered the new sway bar set from SU as well, cant wait to improve on a good thing even more!

Any tips on adjustment's ??

Tips..

When I first had the coilovers installed the ride was exceptionally hard and stiff. It seems to have softened up over time to a much more comfortable ride but still handles very well and takes corners very flat.

One thing that made a huge difference to comfort though was to set the rear rebound to the recommended setting (1.5 turns I think). I had to have the suspension place do that as its the one setting you cant adjust without lowering/removing the shocks. I think when I first had them on the rebound on the rear was way too stiff.

Then I set everything else to the recommended settings and just experimented by adjusting front and rear compression two clicks up or down until I was happy with the ride comfort and how the car behaved when going over a bump or taking corners aggressively.
I also found that having the front rebound about 2 clicks harder than the recommended initial setting to be a good thing, i.e. the car doesnt bounce or oscillate after going over a bump it seems to stay very flat and solid.

Also I cut down a 5mm alan key to more easily access and adjust the front compression points as its a bit of a tight squeeze between the cv boot and the bottom of the shock.

I cant remember my specific settings as far as number of clicks from full soft but I think they are 1-2 harder than the recommended initial starting points.

Hope this helps.

Thanks ! I love them the car is set up so much nicer now, and turns even more hed's. Always nice when a cute chick in her man's G35 is stretching her neck to check out YOUR car lol. Anyway tha car rides Great and its well worth the money.

I wish people would learn they can't install lower/sport springs while leaving the OEM dampers alone. It just doesn't work.

Anyway, I would look at the H&R setup instead. Seems to be a helluva lot cheaper, no? Curious how "harsh" the soft settings are compared to OEM. One of the many reasons I got rid of my VW was the coil setup was way too harsh (Vogtland). The OEM Mazdaspeed is a 7.5 out of 10, IMO. Feels way too unsteady at high speeds.

Personally, I don't miss having a lowered car. I would do this for handling ONLY.

H&R kit has ben back ordered FOREVER I looked at the kit as well i think its around $1100. While its opinion at best I enjoy the Mazdaspeed version so far. Sets up the care quite nice and alows a great agressive look or acompletely stock look.

NO! no rubbing at all, drop is 1.25 in front and between 1 and 1.25 in rear depending on how much gas is in the tank. Rockin the RX-8's yes !
