Hi, I just recently got my mp5 and was wondering has anybody relocated their front license plate to the lower air dam area? Was it easy? Any pics? Also what do you use to plug the holes where the original license plate location is? Is their a stock part number? Thanks in advance!

EXACTLY! Thats a nice car! Hey are you in Hawaii? I can pretty much figure out how to mount the plate on the lower grill but what can I use to plug the holes that would be left on the bumper? Any suggestions? Thanks

yeah its ezee fo sheezy.

well, kinda. ;)

if you are keeping your grill mesh, you will need to cut off about 3/4 of an inch form the top or bottom of the plate, or fold it back. i folded mine back just in case so i can get back to normal if i wanted.

then i drilled a hole on the left and right of the plate, as you will use these to secure it down so it does flap around.

then just placed it over the lower grill and ziptie it on. for this i bent the zip ties into a V shape so i could insert them into the grill and then fasten the plate there.

i like it a lot.

for the holes i followed jr's how to and used the GM universal fasteners. PM if you need help or more details.

yah, im in hawaii, oahu. uclap has a good write up. my front end, i had a body shop shave off the lower grill and the clips that hold it up and with the remainding holes, i used a black zip tie through them. the good thing is, when i go fast enough, my plate lifts up and you cant see it haha. talk about "hide away license plate" ;) - chris

I see! sweet ride you got....which shop does all your mods on the island? I'm not sure who knows the most about our cars here....

i go to JL autobody. there is GX auto (mike) and Distinctive (mitch), but gx takes tooooo long and distinctive is a little pricey. jl is near kilgos on sand island road, call and ask for joe. fast job, quality work, and decent price. peace - chris

Thanks for the info, but what about your other mods? Performance wise, which shop is good? i used to use Sonics a lot before but thats when I had my Audi A4...

i have no idea if its illegal, but im pretty sure it isnt, especially for the front plate. as long as the numbers arent obstructed and the state can be seen i doubt ill ever get any hassel for it.

its safer than cutting it tho ;)

hmm...i took mine off altogether and they are required in NJ. i've been pulled over w/out it and the officer didn't even mention it. plus, u can always throw it right behind the windshield in the corner...

haha yah, my friends lude ;) hawaiiannights-performance wise? haha i do simple mods that i can do myself like intake or wutever, im not too much of a "go" kind of person. pm "pro5". his name is dave. he has his turbo set up, did all his internals, and all that other tricky motor things. about bending plates, i have noooo idea, but i dont suggest it. cops make up all kinds of excuses, some are cool, some are dicks, but i wouldnt risk it. hope that could help, peace - chris

Check out the raffle this month for a license plate relocation bracket. The bracket mounts to the underside of the P5's air dam. These can also be purchased from T&A Performance Specialties at a reduced price for this Mazda Forum.

Regards

Would you have a closer up picture of this item? Plus do you know what could be used to plug the holes without having to do body work?? Thanks in advance...
