One reason I doubt this is because it's unlikely "the man" would just send you a refund for what you overpaid -- he'd just keep it unless you requested the extra be returned (like Dr. bills, dentist, credit card bills, etc if you overpay)

This is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get the points. When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00 make the check out for $82.00 or some small amount over the fine. The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference, however here is the trick. DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away! Points are not assessed to your license until all financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT complete. The system has received it's money and is satisfied and will no longer bother you. This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every state.

I've heard rumors of something like this, but I have no idea if it's true or not.

As far as I know it is not true. I live in oregon, and if you get a ticket you have to pay the exact amount or over, and there isn't a refund.

when I got my speeding ticket it was 110(was doing 45 in a 35..little pricey..but whatever) when I went in and paid it I gave em 120, cause I had a 100 and a 20...didn't get change back. So I asked, and they said they dont give change back and you have to pay with the exact amount or over pay...that simple.

so as far as I know cali does this, oregon, and washington I think...I am sure that is just another "urban legend" floating around...cause as far as the state will car...they got thier money they are gonna give you the points...not to mention that they SENT the money to you, they cant help it if you do not cash the check..

I never got a refund in OK, and I tried it, but it's not on my record though.... who knows (shrug)

Not true! I read it in some magazine (Road & Track or Automobile...something like that) a while back and it is absolutely not true. What would most likely happen is that they would cash your check anyways and not mail the refund.

Or if they do mail the refund...the system will kick out an error and b**** slap you a long time later. Now that's a kick in the balls!

For my latest ticket I sent in $80.20 the ticket was for $80, that was in earily September and they still have not cashed the check.

Im thinking that they are waiting for my court date. IDK
Weird system they got goin.

The validity of this misconception is questionable to unexistant
no such word as unexistant

next time try nonexistant
