so i finally got a chance to play with my 24-70 f2.8L and i think i may have a defective lens. it's just a tad soft on focus. doesn't matter if i'm shooting 1/1250 1600ISO or 1/125 100ISO. the only photo editor i have is iphoto (i know...it's crappy) but to get any crisp images, i have to crank the sharpness. i know that there's some work to be done to the pictures, but even my wife commented on the soft focus. oh well, time to call up amazon and order a replacement.

what apeture are you shooting at? post some sampled :)

on a good note I pre ordered my 5D MKII today :D

here's one f5.0 1/640. focus was set for the little numbers under the hoop. it seems very slightly off to me. even on my cheap ass tamron 70-300 I don't have to touch the sharpness.

The 24-70 L is sharp in the center at f/2.8 at all focal lengths. Corners are also very good with one exception, corners are soft at 28mm and below until stopped down to at least f/8, which is what shows in your pictures. There is rapid sharpness drop-off at these far corners below 28mm. Stopping down a stop or so improves sharpness slightly in the center and slightly more in the corners.

now we're talkin... :)

I see you also have the rotary accent in the lower fascia

and yellow fogs
