Both are great camera and great kits. I prefer the Nikon because that what I love but both will serve you very well as both a beginner and an advanced camera.

yea, id get a nikon also. its all really based on personal preference though.

one thing i dont like about Canon is that most of the bodies seem to be plastic.

if i where you id get a d3000 or one of the cheaper nikons and and with the extra money, get a lens or 2.

The thing with the lenses is that canon has changed their lens mounts a few times so not every lens will work with every body.

Nikon on the other hand. Any lens made from like 1980 to present will mount to current bodies.

To be honest the lens issue really is not that big of a deal. All lenses with Auto focus are very recent and so you are not really going to run into many mounting issues.

This would not be a bad purchase, but I have not done my research on the D5000. http://www.adorama.com/INKD5000K1.html
I mean it comes from Nikon its going to be a solid camera. I just do not know much about it. If you have questions feel free to pm me or most of the guys in here that post pictures. We know what we are talking about and understand how to read past all the marketing BS and tell what a camera can really do.

im pretty sure nikon isnt the only company that makes lens for the d90...
there was another company (its called sigma i believe) and the only thing you lost was some vibration resistance thing.
Its Vibration Reduction and pretty much all lens makers have some sort of Image Stablization built in now. It is a bit more expensive and I don't find it all that useful, but they have it.

but with something like the d90 i would be limited to nikon lenses only/
No you can use Sigma, Tamron, and many other brands.

The kid actually listens! I completely agree here.

Yep.

This applies to both Canon and Nikon, both are great systems. Buy whichever body feels best to you.
