Any photographers in here?

Thx judman. For that shot I had the object balanced on top of the flashlight.

What is that object anyways?

Photographed another bboy event this weekend.

Aerial Penis, best photography on here! (cryhard)

Funny story behind that too. When we took off, I noticed an airliner heading into Dulles International (the approach goes over my home airport at a couple thousand feet) and commented on how it would be funny to spell out something in the snow or draw a phallic object or something. So when we were flying along and saw that, we nearly crashed we were laughing so hard!

Here's another shot I got of it:

He went... uh... that way...

Love your Winter's Mist shot. Beautiful.

Thanks bud. It was a very weird phenomenon, but just as beautiful in person...

flyin - If you do it again, try a couple with a lower aperture... like as wide as the lens will go... Some of the plane shots lose distinction between subject and background.

funky - did you try the fisheye and the tc?

Funky, it's a blown glass paperweight.

I missed the wolf moon the other night. Was too damn cold out. I got a shot in last night.
Straight from the camera with the kit lens. It's decent quality I think.

Not yet..no money to buy the tC LOL. Soon! I've been looking for a 2nd body to be the main body. It's a toss up between a 7D or another 50D. I do like the video and the extra features, but at almost double the price.

Hey Flyin...what do you do for occupation?

I see exactly what you are saying. I was so worried about getting a crisp shot, therefore keeping the aperture stepped down a bit, I forgot how a narrow DOF would help in that regard. I didn't have a lot of time to review my shots either since this was impromptu and happened very quickly. I will be doing more air-to-air shots in the future, though, so this was a good learning experience for me.

I currently work part-time at a flight school, just dispatching airplanes and working the front desk. I'm going to be leaving to go back to school later this year so I can get fully qualified as a professional pilot.

After shooting a couple of shots and some video with the 7d, and owning a 50d, I can confidently say that it's worth the extra dough to step up to the 7d. Find a nice used one on craigslist or something.

Yeah, I always mess up on stuff when I'm like "this has got to be perfect, but I have to hurry up, because it's gonna happen fast!" like when Ratan Tata (the new owner of Jaguar and Land Rover, and probably the richest man in the world) came to visit our dealership. I took pics of him with people from here, and they look like I took them with the first point and shoot that I ever owned. I was so pissed. it'll never happen again. Now I know a little more though, so next time something similar happens, I'll be ready.

the guy on the site I linked to said it is sharper than the 24-70L through that entire focal range. pretty impressive.

but its efs thats the number one reason I dont have it, I tried it and it didnt do much for me but I only used it a few times

I think Funky has one

honestly for me those photos are not exposed well, like fairly soft, no pop

as far as composition they are way to busy, the backgrounds are very distracting

I would have taken your plane down lower so you could have gotten the sky as the background and not the tree's / ground it would have set the plane as the focal point

the good thing is you can probably go back lots of times for more shots :)

just remember that your meter is going to be wrong and you need to compensate for that to get the correct exposure

No I don't have one actually. I usually borrow it from a friend. The 17-85 is a great walk around lens. The only problem was that it wasn't fast enough to shoot indoors when I didn't wanna use flash. It's great for portraits and everything else...On a crop body, it's got great focal range and it has IS which is totally useful. It's a great lens to pack when travelling.

Thanks for the feedback. Again, it was my first time shooting air-to-air so I have a lot to take away from this. Its definitely difficult to shoot from one moving object at another moving object, while trying to not only get motion in the picture (aka propeller blur). The aircraft I was in wasn't ideal for taking photos from either, but it still gave me the opportunity to practice. The only reason I didn't radio for a down-looking-up photo was because we were in a high-wing aircraft and wouldn't have been able to see him.

I definitely have some ideas for next time!
