Any MSP's running DS this year? Or is everyone STX?

Leigh- you run in the Houston region right? I'll be racing with them this summer :)

Any advice on wheel offsets guys? +42 or +50 for STX? I'm torn between widening the track(+42) or playing it safe and fitting some 225's(+50) with minor trimming to the splash guards... still got some time to decide though.

Check out the newest K1 TS variant, the SF!!
I'm not sure if they will be importing them to the states though :(

I went with +45 wheels rota slipstreams... they don't come in 17s though. Don't take too much stock in rubber width for STX... the fastest STX car in 2002 was Todd Meades integra running 205 falkens and virtually all STS civics run 205s as well. Gearing is much more important in my opinion.

As for the MSP being an STX killer... those portly WRXs got nothing on this car. They need to loose about 300 lbs and drop about 2" before they can even come close to a stock speed in turning. Its those damn straights though... an STX wrx can put down 250hp... I'll be lucky to see 200Hp ever.

Hey Andy, you need to drive that submarine up the ohio river and come play for a day in my car... its something else. What else... I don't know but its something.

Whoo-hoo! Another MSP! None of the guys with them that come out here ever stick around. The only regular AutoXers with my car that I know of are in Austin (and one guy here that always brings his speed, but never seems to drive it).

If you're in STX there is also some good competition to look forward to. It seems to get a decent turnout(all those former DS WRXs).

heh, yes STX is huge and competitive in Houston. STD is killer as well.

I raced a Black Protege DX last year in STF, incase you used to go out before you got the MSP. Hopefully I can find a good deal on one this summer and tear it up with you.

Leigh,
A lot of clubs are running and indexed street tire class. In these you keep the car prepared to the rules for your class such as stock but you run on street tires just like STS. Your time and your PAX factor is then used to determine what your time and rank are. Check and see if your local club runs something like this. That is what I have been doing. On the overall PAX you are handicapped since you give up a second or two not running "R" tires. Where I am, it is one of the most competitive classes.

I had a black Celica in GS last year with them. I miss the competition a bit, but not the car :P
I wish I could remember your car - its taken me awhile to start noticing the regulars... Last August was my first real event... when did you stop running it?

I run Tire whenever I'm out of town acutally. None of the Houston groups seem to make use of it though.

ah, my last event was in August :( I had an orange lip on my black steelies if that helps.

Aw... probably missed you then - I was running with the night heats (brilliant of me - run your first AutoX in the dark!) so I don't remember most of the cars I saw.

Come say hi to me if you come out this summer though ^_~

I just started autoxing, currently bone stock, but my times are ahead of the few others in the DS class. Damn, our cars are impressive for the money! :) I think I'll stay in DS until the "must modify" bug becomes overwhelming. The stock tires don't seem bad but do wear quickly (or to me they seem to).

Leigh, did you plan on coming to a SASCA event a few months ago?

Especially true if you caught them cheap at the end of the year!
Stock tires aren't bad, but they've been chunking on me a little. Probably thanks to the rough surface at GGP. They held up much better when I ran last month at tech ridge.

You caugh me - I have tried to get out to the SASCA events all year - stuff keeps coming up to keep me from making the drive... >.<

I am hoping *fingers-crossed* that I will be out there next month. But I probably won't know for sure until the week of - are you driving with them?

Yes, I'm driving with them but not a member (I'm in the Air Force so will be heading out in August). Very fun group of people! If you make it next month I'll see you then.

I plan on staying in DS for at least one more set of tires, can someone point me in the direction of a couple tires I should consider for my next set? I've heard the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW and Potenza Pole Positions are good for day to day and auto-x. Any suggestions?

S03's are way too expensive to be using them for both IMO. Khumo MX's, Dunlop FM901's or Yoko AVS ES100's are cheap and would be a good choice for daily + autoX.

Hope I get out there ^_~

I hear good things about the S03s... and half of me wanted to have a go at the the T/A KDs.. but they are rather expensive.

I'm going to be giving the MXs a go soon so I can tell you how they compare to OEM anyway.

The S-03s are great, but also kind of expensive. They are better in the wet than Azenis or probably MXs, but not as good in the dry.
