This question is for anyone who installed the K&N filter...
I'm having some bad stumbling when I'm at idle, drops from
about 900rpms to 500 or 400rpms , up & down......
At first it did this at stop lights & not all the time.
Now it happens all the time & getting worse...
So maybe AGR#7 can help, are you getting any stumble in idle?
I'm thinking of taking the K&N off & putting on the stock box
just to see if their is any change......
Also lets say putting the stock box back on helps the stumble,
will putting back the K&N & just dealing with the stumble
create any problems with the engine or turbo???
Thanks guys for any info.....

Hey Rugged, I installed the K&N RU3580 about two weeks ago, and I have been experiencing the same symptoms as you. Someone on this forum said that if you disconnect the negative side of the battery, wait at least a minute, then re-connect the battery cable, the ECU should have reset itself and possibly remove the idle problem. I have yet to do this, so if you get to it first, please post the results...

The only ay I could think a K&N would cuase this is if it actualy ristricts air into the car more then the stock system or if you lossened up a intake connection after the MAF and air is getting around it. If you took of the Air box did you remeber to keep the Temp sensor hooked up?
Yet another cuase could be that the Mazda stock system can draw cold air and the K&N will sit to close to the engine drawing warm air and making the upgrade totaly useless.

As with any mod you make with the flow of air, you gotta reset the computer. timrock is correct, Disconnect the battery for about 1 minute, start the car and let it idle for 10 minutes, then drive the car on the streets for about 20 minutes, the computer should reset itself and learn the new flow characteristics.

Ok cool I'll try that today ( I have to do my oil change anyway )

& yeah I did everything that was needed for the install...
As for the stock air box drawing more air, it could be, but
after the K&N install there seams to be more air coming in
as to the stock box. Turbo & BOV sound much better, as if
they are indeed getting more air.... So thanks for the replys
guys.....

Hi everyone! No problems at all with the K&N. My idle has been perfect / seamless. There has to be more airflow with the K&N than with the stock airbox.

A noticeable increase in throttle response, and I'm sure we added a pony or two.

I believe a very 'useful upgrade', actually.

It seems to take a day or so of driving for the IAC to adjust to the new air flow. Mine did it for a few hours, but I put over 100 miles a day on my MSP, so it went away quick.

Well, I just got back from doing my oil change & at the same time
I disconnected the negative from the battery . It seemed to work
just fine, the idle was fine & I didn't even get to take it out for
a drive. So this seems to work so far for any stumble on idle.
Thanks for the help guys...

Hello all, I just finished disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. I drove the car for about an hour and it seems to be running a bit smoother throughout the powerband, but still stumbles at idle when the fans come on. It appears to go away when the fans are running and I turn the heater on. Any clue what may be the problem or the solution ?
Thanx-

I answered this in another thread for you. The stumble at idle is the turbulence created from the fans turning on. You can make a shield for it or move the filter. The 90's Mustangs had a similar problem. At speed, the fans are likely to not come on, so it shouldn't be a performance issue when moving.

Hello all....I just ended up re-installing my factory air box and re-setting the ECU. The car is now running perfectly fine and actually feels like it has more power than with the K&N. I am figuring that the weather has something to do with having problems with the K&N installed. It had been damp and a bit warmer here in Chicago. Who knows....

Next time, try adjusting the throttle valve, I know I dont have a Mazdaspeed, but the same happened to me with the Injen Intake.

I thought the K&N filter was suppost to be a bit better than the stock one? Is this filter not performing the way it should...or is it just a matter of resetting the ecu? Maybe I should go put my stock one back on and see what happens..

I am quite pleased with the K&N performance. Again; in my opinion, a good $40.00 upgrade.

Hey
My P5 got so bad with the idle the car almost stalled out. I took it to the dealership and had the computer "recalibrated". or thats what they told me they did. but regardless, the car runs better now then when I picked it up off the lot.

did u have an aftermarket air filter like a K&N cone filter? or did u have the stock one on?
