Any good driving roads in the LA area?

I'm new to LA and I'm having a difficult time finding anyplace to drive that might be fun. Mostly it's gridlock, bumper-to-bumper, traffic-light fantasyland here.

Any LA'ers here who know where I can do some 'spirited' driving? If my car's gonna blow up, drop an engine, or throw another CEL, I want it to happen before it's out of warranty....

its really short but get on the 90, there's cops every now and then (CHP station is at the end of one) but my old boss had a porsche and would tell us about hitting 100 just for kicks. I've gone a few times and there's not a lot of places they can gun you.

come up to san jose area.... LOTS of fun roads. On my run yesterday I came across a evo meet and 3 or 4 sti's playing on the same road...Steven's Canyon Road. Might be worth the trip...
