I just got a new amd 64 , and damn with the fx5950 its a screamer. They are expensive but I always have to have the best when it comes to my computer and this stuff is by far the quickest out there. I didnt get the fx-51 because its more expensive but it is still way better than anything else i have running. I have two amd xp2700 and a p4 2.8 and its wayyyy better. So anyone into computer gaming the 64 is the way to go, just thought i would share.:) -cheesie

I'm gonna wait till more software/programs are 64bit, by then 64bit cpu's should be cheaper. I can't really see spending $500+ on a cpu..but hey if you got the cash more power to you. But for me, the price/performance ratio doesn't appeal to me quite yet.

spend that much money on your car, it will thank you.... you already have a nice home network going there.

isn't win xp 64bit out? and i think there's some unix versions that are 64bit, but i'm not sure

eh, whatever. im holding out for 128-bit CPUs with Virtual Reality interface processors (naughty)

Its too early to drop that kind of money on a un-tested processor. There's no software that supports it yet, and the only major gains you get are in calculations and a larger address space for memory. I guess the memory<->CPU speed is pretty good.

Basically you paid a crapload of money for something you cant use to its potential, and I'll drop half of that money on a newer, revised and probably faster version when it can actually be used to its potential.

I have the fx5950 - great video card.

Pulling a score of 34,000 on Aquamark with an AMD 2000XP and 1.5GB of DDR2100.

Plus I got my fx5950 for free - "it's good to be the king".

My brother has an A64. He got it when they first came out. You should have spent even more money and got the A64 FX which is even crazier! That thing is crazy...I'm too broke to spend that much money. Plus, that thing runs so cool so you don't need any loud fans or anything...(unlike mine lol).

well my coleco vision modded into a pc smokes all ur rigs....

Doh. Why didnt you get the 9800XT much faster card, but you got it for free.

I of course not a fan of Nvidia.

i got the gigabyte 9800pro also...better than the nvidia cards imo

My friend has an Athlon 64 Rig, and it flies...I couldn't agree with you more. I have a P4 2.6 OCed to 3.2, and the difference is definitely noticable...we have the same video card, too (9800 Pro)

sorry i took so long had some problems with my new computer:( I actually took it back and got it exchanged for the fx-51, the cpu i had before was all crapped out so i got the 51 for a direct exchange. It is even faster holy crap its insane. About waiting for better and cheaper, it happens no matter what so I just buy top of the line every year or so, its already slower than "something" so i dont care about that thats the way it goes with computers. I also look at it this way, I get the uber deals on pc stuff, all in all I got a sk8n mobo a gig of pc2700 ecc the fx-51 an extra 120g hd the fx5950 a new case with 8 fans not including the heatsink cpu fan or the gpu fan, a dvd burner audigy2 5.1 logitech speakers and some other random crap for $1300. Thats gonna cost at least 2200 or so at other places so im not really worried about the cost, and I am now ready for 64 bit apps when the are available no putting a comp together when they are available. All I know as a hradcore gamer I am way more than pleased! -cheesie

about the nvidia ati debate, i have had both. I just recently re-installed my ati 9700 pro after running the fx5800ultra and in my opinion the ati in no way held up over a short amount of time like the fx did. The drivers are crap although better than in the past but imo the ati cards just dont seem to hold up that long. I have never once had a problem with invidia, I actually was a diehard ati fan when i went from a geforce 3 to the ati 9700 but I had more crashes and visual problems in counterstike than i have ever seen in any game so i went out and got the fx hasnt happened since, once again i was sold on invidia. but its all about preference, name brand, and in my case mainly about long term reliablity of quality compatability and driver strength , which is where ati really fails. -cheesie
