Any chance there will be a 2009 MSP3?

Well, I personally cannot wait for summer of 2008. It was announsed that there will be a Mazdaspeed Miata that will sport this same 2.3 turbo engine. It's gonna be built to take out the Solstice GXP and Sky Redline. It will definitely take out the Speed 3 and Speed 6 in performance. I'm keeping an eye on it, because if Mazda builds this right, I might replace my S2000 with it. TIME WILL TELL!!

About time they put this engine in their sports car, and not their economy sedans and hatchbacks. :)

I really want to like the miata but it has the reputation of a gay car. Plus the fact that I don't want a convertable.

Oh come on. This is the RWD Mazdaspeed Miata we are talking about here. This thing is gonna bury the Speed 3 in performance, and it's actually a sports car, not a 5 door economy hatch. In looks, it's not even close. Then add performance, you got yourself a winner.

It would be great if they made a pure enthusiast version, and made a trim of it that's removable hardtop only, like the Honda S2000 CR coming out will be. Lighten that baby up, pack it with 260hp, and LOOK OUT!!!! :)

NO doubt it will be a monster at the track but I just can't bring myself to get one.

Sounds nice if...

I could fit in one :-). I'm 6'2 with long legs. I love the new Miata style though. Defintely an underrated car. I can't imagine 260hp in that small car. It'll probably catch air everytime you take-off :-)

I did not like the styling of the MS6 or the bad gas mileage. It also did not feel very sporty in the handling. My MS3 handles more like my old BMW 3 I had which is a compliment.

Hmmm. I got averaged about 28-29mpg on my frip to Florida last month on highway with my Speed 6, and average about 23-24mpg. I don't think it's a whole lot different then the Speed 3, maybe 1-2mpg TOPS.

One is basically a fast sporty AWD luxury sedan, the other is a fwd sporty hatch, so there's no better car really, just depends on taste and what you want out of a car.

Naturally if you are looking for both a fun weekend car and daily driver, the Speed 3 is the better choice. However, I like the luxury/refinement this car has, which the Speed 3 lacks. It all depends on what you want. I happen to think the Speed 6 looks nicer, but yes, from an enthusiast standpoint it's lacking because of it's luxury type feel. I will tell you this. The drive to Florida was a ton better then it would have been in a Speed 3. This car is a great combination of everything. I never thought I'd like this car as much as I do. With that said, if the Speed 3 came in AWD, and had incentives, I'd have gotten that, because I'm a compact car guy at heart. :)

I know that everyone is going on about (deadhorse but I thought I would let you guys know what I have found out.

Was in at my local dealer here in New Zealand (next to Australia for those that don't know) & was talking to the sales manager about the differences between the original 06/07 Mazdaspeed3 and the current 08 version and he confirmed that we are getting a new Mazdaspeed3 in March 2009. He didn't have any details on the what it was going to look like but he did confirm the the new model was going to be 215KW (the current version we get here is 190KW, I am not sure of the spec's on the US model). I know that we got the orignal Mazdaspeed3 here before you guys in the US, I bought mine in July 2006 which was the first one sold here, so I don't know when this model would be released over there.

Anyway, that is all I know & thought I would share.

I don't think the miata is all that pretty, looks like a tiny turd and it's not very practical. Also I highly doubt it's going to get 260hp at its current weight / size. The RX-8 looks a don better than that dorky looking / tiny miata thingy.

Also, why can't a 5 door economy hatch be considered a sports car? Just because it's not a tiny 2 sitter turd the maita is doesn't mean it's not a sports car. As far as it "burying" the speed 3 in performance I don't think so. Will outperform it? I would hope so but to say it's going to make it look like s*** is kind of an over-statement if you ask me.

Also I don't think you can make these kind of claims pertaining to the MS3 seeing as you own a MS6. The MS6 is like 600lbs heavier and doesn't feel like the MS3 at all. Own a MS3 for about 6months then start making these kinds of statements and they'll have a little more baring perhaps. Just my opinion!
