Ok this is a new one for me... when its cold out... and i accelerate hard in 4th or 5th gear....(sometimes even lower gears) at ~4K rpm... my car SLAMS like total loss of power and then surges causing my car to buck... i keep throwing CEL's too, its weird.. it goes off and on(cel)... dont have any idea what this could be.. thought id ask yall.. thanks guys... PS it only does this on average every other day... its bizzarre any ideas?

Fuel cut maybe? Happens to some of us when it's real cold, especially with a CAI. Are you familiar with how fuel cut feels?

no im not familiar with what it feels like, but thats what ive been thinking it is... i do have a cai too... but im at stock boost, so thats why im questioning that... anything i can do to get rid of it? like make my cai a sri

yea you are hitting fuel cut, buy a joe p fcd that will get rid of it.

Or if you don't want to do that go to the dealership and tell them you are hitting fuel cut. The colder air causes it, i've hit it at stock boost too, i just bought a fcd cause i planed to raise the boost ne way.

Dealer cant do s*** but it does sound just like fuel cut minus the CEL prob?

i've been hitting fuel cut with the weather getting cold as s*** out. my fcd is going on tomorrow night. but i do have a few questions for anyone who knows, how bad is fuel cut on the car....like harm wise???? it's a safety thing right???? so putting on a fcd will get rid of fuel cut but does that mean that i'm harming the car more?

no you are not harming the car at all it just raises the psi level in which fuel cut happens.

the only way you hurt the car is if you raise the boost too much the fuel cut will not kick in and you may ping/damage the engine.

Just throw on the stock airbox if it's getting much colder and save the CAI for when you actually need it...

Trust me you can make this car ping even BEFORE the fuel cut :)
Drive safe (flame)

ya mine is hitting it really bad right now and i figured it was fuel cut, ever since the temp dropped below 40 i cant boost more then 4 psi
anybody want to give me a new fuel map for the mpi since my damn laptop is so slow all it is good for is loading the maps, cant tune on it!!

ah, this is the only time i love living in south florida (81 out right now :) ). That only happens in Jan. but i do get the boost cut the two days its cold here even with the fcd

You are definately harming the car if you put an FCD to overcome this problem. The stock ECU is programmed to give you up to a maximum charge. The limit of the MAF.

Laws of physics say that the colder the air is the more dense the charge will be, the more fuel is needed to keep the mixture in check.

Fuel cut is there for a reason, because the ECU is not programmed to give more fuel. SO, putting in an FCD will only aggravate the problem. You are saying that this happens in 4th and 5th gears. The highest load on the engine is these two gears. You will severly lean out the mixture and cause detonation. There are several cases on the forum of detonation and people finding a rod coming out the side of an engine.

So if you want to install an FCD and more boost, be sure to find a way to add more fuel as well. You are gonna need it.

can anybody describe what fuel cut feels like cause i think i may have been having the same problem last week when it was colder out.

You're all wrong. Its the spark cutting off, not the fuel. Your engine would go boom boom if they cut the fuel.

Just thought I'd be an ass.
