Another New Guy

Liked the forum - about time I joined! I am located in darkest africa, but like to think we are doing some impressive modding on my Mazdaspeed 3. FYI this is my daily car doing 5000kms per month, 75 000 so far, not a single break down and amazing performance

Holy cow! 3K/month! Beats the heck outta my 666 miles/month. Welcome aboard.

and hes running a T3/T4 on stock internals with no issues! This is awesome, can we get some pics. please? oh, and welcome, where in Africa are you located?

Located in South Africa - heres a pic of her. Stock internals. A few people here have gone this route instead of the GT series way - much cheaper and some guys are also experiencing drivetrain failures with the GT turbos. Personally think they have too much torque lower down in the rev range which is chewing through clutches and gearboxes. The T3 variant I have only reaches full boost at 4000RPM but the power doesn't taper off at all so I rev cleanly to get max power at 7000RPM, which makes for a somewhat average car in the traffic, but once you have some road in front of you, its a rocket!

Welcome to Mazda Forums, Jeff! (hi)

Impressive modding indeed! We would love to see more pics of your MS3 (pics) and definitely keep us updated on your progress...Got any vids as well?

Enjoy the forums! :D

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for sharing your info & pics. Is the MPS/Speed3 easily obtained in S.A.? How about parts & mods? Just wondering how much extra effort you might be putting forth to accomplish what so many of us here in the States take for granted.

Hey Bill, the MPS is readily available here but other hot hatches are far more popular - mostly GTI's and ST's. For parts I am finding most stuff locally, but have to import this and that from the states, you guys are certainly world leaders in terms of modding. There are also some complications owing to altitude - we are at about the height of denver.

Otherwise I finally attached a boost gauge and am holding 1.3 bar in the higher gears, which I never expected!
