Another MSP down....

Last night i was cutting through a parking lot over in Brandon, FL near Golden Coral and got nailed on my front quarter panel. Worst yet it sent me flying into a curb and I nailed a parked car. Funny thing is, my car looked like i barely got hit, but yet the car that hit me was totalled. Im not sure if they will total it or not, but by the looks of it there is no way they will. Ill try to get pics up. I cant believe how well it held up considering how fast the lady was going that hit me. One more reason I guess why I love my protege. Will a local mazda dealer repair cars? Thats where id like to take it. Anyone have experience on what to do after a wreck. All i know is this just ******* sucks. No car, no ride, nothing. Worst yet, today is my birthday.

local dealers will only send it to people they deal with which in most cases means more$$ so i would go to like 2/3 local body shops to get the best deal just my .02

that sucks dude! luckily, ive never been in a wreck so i wouldnt be able to tell you what to do, but happy birthday man.

that sucks......was it an old person? I lived near you (Sarasota) for about 10 years and it's nothing but old people driving......I got T-boned once by a guy who was 85!!!!!! What the hell is a guy that old doing with a license!!!!!

Anyways, good luck with the repairs!

Sorry to hear about that bro. Good luck.

On a side note, DONT TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR BODY WORK. They make thier money selling cars, not doing body work. Try to find a local, independantly owned place. I say this because they do better work. They have to, to help drive thier business. :D Trust me on this, no dealer for body work bro.

What about the msp rims and such. I know my front two are damaged. How is a local body shop going to find new ones. And if the insurance company is paying for repairs why does it matter how much the dealer will charge?

The local body shop will find them the same place they'll find all the parts for your car- the parts counter at your local Mazda dealer.

Ask around locally, lots of people you know will have had body work done at one time or another. Try and find out what shop does a lot of paint work on more expensive cars- BMW, Mercedes and the like- they'll probably be best at matching the paint on the MSP, which isn't the easiest to do. Its not hard for a good shop, but its one area where a so-so body shop might have trouble.

A good body shop will be able to fix your car to the point that it would take a trained eye to see the repairs.

Happy Birthday, and damn, what a bummer.

rocketspeed & boostisgood are right: No dealers for body work, and try to find out where the expensive luxury cars are repaired, that's where the guys who can get it right the first time will be working.

My insurance company provided me with the names of a few "preferred" repair places, and I picked one close to me that I knew had a good local reputation. If I got the work done at one of these places, the insurance co. would guarantee the work for the life of the car.

Oh yeah, about the MSP body integrity, the guy that hit me was driving a big Olds, and his car had to be towed from the scene. I drove my MSP for two weeks with no problems while waiting for a fender to arrive.

A bit of advice for anyone that gets into a car accident. Insurance companies won't advertise it but you can file for a loss of value on a vehicle that has been in an accident. Basically when you go to sell your car or trade it in the value of the car is less then an identical car that had not been in an accident. You can file for the difference in value and the person at fault's insurance company will write you a check for the amount. Its somewhat of a pain to do since you will need to get the car appraised after the repair work is done but it can amount to several thousand dollars.

that's bad man but happy birthday. Hurry up to get it in the body shop so you can get a rental through insurance.

Adam get your car fixed at the ferman bodyshop on adamo dr. it is a chevy dealer but the bodyshop does killer work. had my former avenger fixed there, mother' s es300, and will be getting my bumper fixed by them in jan or feb.

they own the mazda dealer i bought my car from on florida ave.

what ever you do, do not go to the courtesy toyota bodyshop @60 and 301 or the one at the chrysler dealer on brandon blvd.

bad-bad work. their work was so bad that USAA( my insurance co) dropped them from their list of preffered bodyshops.

anyways good luck and have a happy birthday otherwise.

damn man well pour your syrup into your cup and start sippin cuz its almost 2004! sorry about your car, when i got rearended it SUCKED too, my parents were GONE, i had NO car, but i got to keep my rental car money :) (only bc i am too young to have a rental too but still ;p )

Thanks EVERYONE for the advice. I wound up taking it to a place called Brandon paint and autobody on robertson st. they had a pretty nice shop, and the first words out of the guys mouth when i told him the insurance comp gave him as a listing to repair my car were "you know, you can take your car anywhere you want." So i know this guy isnt out just to make money if he is telling me beforehand that i can take my car anywhere i want. I made sure though they got the car in before new year. It really doesnt look all that bad. I hit a car head on and my hood isnt bent at all. only noticable damage is the dented drivers front quarter panel, drivers door, and a busted fog light. But my baby is going to be down for a bit. Hopefully it wont take too long.....atleast now i wont be putting so many miles on her....:D

Sorry to hear about your accident. I got hit 3 weeks ago and they are rebuilding the whole back drivers side of the car. I am trying to be optimistic about it as well by thinking about the miles I haven't been putting on it. I put around 1000 miles on the rental since I have had it. Plus I don't have to drive it in the snow we had either.

Hope you get your car back soon, and that you are ok, and your birthday turend out better.

Hey make sure you get oem parts...... Thats what was on there thats what they should replace. They cost more but fit better. Insurance companies **** you over for their benefits. OEM, OEM, OEM and yes there is a difference in fit. To long of details to type.

Sorry to hear about that.

and yes make sure they use all OEM part's.
