same thing happened to me. and like previously mentioned, resetting it didnt help any
if you decide to go with the ribbon cable route check out the how-to i posted in another thread... i'll find it and post a link here

has anyone done this without the second part? the rectangular receptacle or whatever? i only ordered the flex/ribbon cable and am now wondering if i need to order the other part too.

I was wondering the same thing. I would think all you need is the ribbon cable.

ok, just did this today and got my radio working. then i found a screw in one of my tires. what fun. and i got a jury summons saturday after having a rainy semi-boring birthday on friday.

anyways, you can do it without the receptacle, just requires desoldering the rectangular piece from the original cable. also, i found a tutorial (with pictures) for the 8017 which was similar enough to the 919 that i got through it.

mine came in about 2 weeks I think. I never got my cd back though I can't even remember which one it was.

my radio took a s*** on me about 3 days ago... i took it to mazda today and got both the sub and the ribon wire on the radio replaced in about an hour (i had already orderd the sub about 2 months ago) and oh yeah somebody "lost" the cd i had in my hu

probably becuase his subwoofer blew, just like 1/2 the other MSP's

whoopi, my head unit now doesn't do anything, i put a cd in and it just opened and stayed that way. It won't spit the cd out or even play the tuner. I reset it and all it does is go to the normal position, the about 2 minutes later opens up again. This is awsome.

yep, it's dead now. either replace the ribbon cable yourself or head to the dealer. i think next time mine breaks i'm just going to replace it.

Sure did. On teh p5's where the map lights and sunroof controls are on the very front of the head liner. Right behind it is a bend. I am going to do some mild fiberglassing. It should come out quite nicely. I will keep you guys updated on it.
