Another blown engine

From a whopping 41/2 - 5 psi!!! My fuel pressure had stayed around 70 - 75.

I wasn't sure if it was or not but I just checked compression from passenger to driver it was 175, 175, 175, 55 . I had been losing lots of oil out of the exhaust even at idle I checked the pcv valve first but no such luck ...then I checked the compression.:(

I haven't opened it up yet but I hate to see how much this will cost....

I've heard it being like the 3rd piston in here but has anyone ever had probs w/ the far right?? drivers side.??

Wow that sucks. Have you ever been running lean? DId you have the inline fuel pump? DId you ever hear any detonation?

I had some pinging, but the fuel pressure read fine and yes I know all about the timing issues and the ecu pulling the fuel. but rarelly did I get into it and when i heard pinging I immeditaly let off. From what corky kept saying. That was impossible to have pinging at 4-5 psi?!?! no, no inline pump.

So do you think the p5 ecu and the in line pump would have saved you? Just curious cause I am still considering the fm kit (and I have a p5 and I know they added the inline pump and a few other things)

Increment the counter on blown engines. Sorry bro. :( (hmm) For the record, after some initial pinging when I was running 6 PSI, I kept my fuel pressure above 75 PSI.

damn only 5lbs of boost. that sux man. where you running lean? did you check your a/f gauge all the time? do you even have a a/f gauge?

With my wideband I notice with the onset fuel pressure on the RR-FPR at 45 psi and the rate of gain screw almost all the way out I am still in the 11's and even the 10's A/F with no inline pump and at 5 PSI.

I am going back to 7 PSI shortly so we will see what happens.

Corky never said anywhere that Detonation was impossible at 4-5 psi. You can get detonation with no boost. Things that will reduce the chance of detonation

Octain
Intrecooler ( Air Charge Temp )
Air Charge Pressure ( Boost or Atomospheric )
A/F Ratio
Compression Ratio.

Sounds like you didn't do your homework before slaping on a turbo, however I am sorry to hear of your problems. If you want help I'm here whenever you like. Later.

On Prot's behalf and correct me if I am wrong, he had a regualr protege ECU, the FM 02 modifier, probably running atleast 91 octane, heard ping from day 1!!!!

:(

Aww, man, t hat sucks. @ 5PSI??!! I wonder how/why you were knocking...

Since you got a low compression test on one of the cylinders, can you just change out the rods/pistons in your current block?

Sounds like a broken piston. If your car still runs the rings may still holding the broken parts.

Those readings may tell that all 3 other pistons are healthy! Dont touch them if you are going to fix the engine.

Check the cylinder health, change all the gaskets, clean the engine and change all rod bearings.

If you need a piston and rod, let me know.

I can help since im in the same situation as you and I feel your pain.

You could take igdrasil's kind offer, but personally, if I were you...I'd go forged once I got the block apart.

running 93 + octane.

I am opening the block this weekend.
