I've had an AEM CAI on my 04 Mazda3 for about a year now and I get a clicking or pinging noise under accleration in 4th and 5th gear. If I push the gas pedal in and out a little while its making the noise it instanlty goes away. I'v heard that it could be a loose buttrfly valve??? or it could be from too much air coming in to the engine but I have never had an CEL. Any ideas guys? BTW, I can't hear the noise with the stock filter and intake on.

Does the mz3 have varible lenght intake runner which operate on a motor or solenoid? That could cause a sould as they switch in upper rpms? Make sure its not moving around as aftermarket stuff usually dosent flex around as much as the stock hardware.

Yeah don't know anything about that but things are pretty tight in there and the only thing I can think of is inside the intake where the valves are(butterfly). Has anyone else had this problem?

on most mazdas, they have a ticking noise. It is mainly from the butterfly's. Its just the way the engines are designed. Alot of ticking noise also comes from the injectors. But I also notice an increase in noise when i installed my CAI.
