So i start my car after work today... and whatdya know, my audio system has no bass...

So, 2 questions -

1) Any known fixes? I'd rather not take it to the dealership if it's an easy enough fix to do on my mine.. but if i must...

2) Any good Chicagoland dealerships i can trust to not dent up my baby? The dealership I bought my car from is a good 80 mile hike from my house.

Thanks in advance... you guys rawwwwwk (and much harder than my pussy bass-less system)

the sub is ******, not much you can do yourself cept replace it.

try community mazda, they seem to be cool, i was just there for some other business and the parts and service guy was really cool and s***.

autobarn on the other hand...

im gonna head back to community to tell them about my sub as well.

The sub is running 8 ohms which isn't what it should be. I went out and got a $50 JL 8W0 new and running 4 ohms how it's supposed to be. I'm almost done dealing with mazda. Hopefully my engine management deal goes through.

Yup, do a search because it is (yet another:rolleyes: ) common problem with the MSP. One of the first persons on here that had the problem had it sent into Kenwood and they found an "engineering flaw" with the voice coil or something --- some problem where 2 wires are accidently getting crossed. Long story short, take it too dealer and get the sub replaced with a new one that Kenwood re-engineered to work properly.

should our factory sub be reading some ohms on the factory sub like 8 ohms if i read it with a ohm meter when the amp is off. I am reading an open. just trying to trouble shoot to see if it is the sub or amp.

Thanks for all the input guys... I finally got time from the crazy work schedule to get into the trunk and take a peek at it... and i was wrong about just the woofer going out... well, it IS out, but nothing back there works... only my door speakers (and maybe tweeters)... so the problem is worse than previously suspected? The red light on the amp is on... so it has power... argh...

Anyhoo, i'm going to try to find some time to take in the beast to community mazda sometime tomorrow or saturday if possible.

I took mine in for a non-working subwoofer. The service guy said it was common problem with something in the deck. He was going to order me a new deck. I am just gonna let the dealer ride this one out.

laptop - just checked out the faq site man... finally a place to find everything! Well done bro

Just wanted to give ya'll an update...

I stopped in at Community Mazda yesterday, and it's the same issue that nattyboy513 had. So they'll be replacing it this week.

I gotta say tho, they were very friendly and helpful... After dealing with the VW techs over at Haggerty VW in Oak Lawn with my last car... the mazda boys renewed my faith in the service departments.

update from my sub going out....Mazda replaced not only the sub but the whole enclosure with sub and amp. They said that is how they do things from mazda, replace the whole thing.. well I am happy the bass is back...rock the f on!!!

hehe ive been to the Haggerty in Oak Lawn (its 5 mins away), when me and my friend went looking at Jettas. the guys there are silly cocks.

good to hear community mazda didnt give you any s***, im headin over there tommorow morning to order parts for my car, so ill let em know about the sub too (thumb)

HEY GUYS-

The answer could be a very simple one. If you have had more than the factory speakers go out, then check to see if the speakers and powered sub are hooked up to a separate grounding cable. If Mazda did what I think they did, they hooked everything up half-ass, which means they didn't properly shave the area where the ground cable is attached. I found that this was a problem with my factory speakers, and my friend who knows car audio fixed it, claiming that its a common problem. Most people tend to overlook it as its so simple. Check it out, it might help.

is there more bass available with an aftermarket subwooffer, say a JL perhaps? Or will the bass all be the same since well an 8inch sub is an 8inch sub...?

What would we have to do to the stock system to get it to bump a bit better? Would interior speakers have to be changed out as well?

Thanks --B

Sub Problems (MP3)

Hey ,
I thought I was the only one experiencing problems with my sub, but of course I have a different setup than you because I have an MP3. I have a piece of crap 10 inch sub in the trunk. Within the last 3 months, my sub keeps going in and out. Cant put my finger on it. Checked every damn connection. Still nothing. Took it to the dealer, they had my car for 7 hours, and couldnt get it to cut out, of course I told the idiot to get in my car and i made it cut out in 10 seconds. They said is was due to some Pizo tweeters I added to my front speakers. We all know thats bulls***. So I called Mazda's main headquarters. They in turn called the dealer. The dealer told them the same thing. So the lady at Mazda tells me to take it up with them. I JUST TOLD THIS LADY I JUST DEALT WITH THEM THATS WHY I'M ON THE PHONE WITH YOU! She kept saying take it back to the dealer....so I hung up on her dum ass. I called Kenwood. Resolution in less than 5 minutes. They said take it to one of our authorized dealers, and we will replace it under warranty.....Done! Now thats what I call service. Give it a shot. Good Luck!

Just got off the phone with the dealer. They said they need to get a new Sub from Kenwood. No ETA on when that might be. I guess I am sub-less for some more time.
