When has a Lotus Elise been avaliable to the States?

I believe there are Lotus Elise in the States but they are rare! Only a handful of people have them...obviously watered down to meet US specs. There is a guy in Virginia that has a 340R: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/167337

They are finally going to be released in the state! Powered by Toyota.

SPECS:
est. $39,000
est. 1975lb curb weight

ENGINE:
Powered by Toyota 1.8-liter 16V inline-4 w/VVTL-i (variable-valve timing and lift)
Rated at 190 bhp @ 7800RPM and 133 lb-ft @ 6800RPM
6-speed manual...also by Toyota...

EST. PERFORMANCE:
0-60 in 4.8 sec
1/4-mile in 12.0sec
Top Speed 141mph

I think it was road and track where I read something like: When they first talked about releasing the car in the states they wanted to use Honda Vtec but it didn't go through. Then they turned to Toyota and they rejected the offer and finally gave in. Toyota also threw in a 6 speed transmission as part of the "deal." The goal was making the car as light as possible. The handling hasn't changed one bit. R&T calls it the best handling sports car in the world.

Sorry...forgot to read the post first...just saw the first post and I wanted to post BS ASAP
