Amplifier installation questions

I have a 2006 mazda 3 and I am going to install an amp and some subs. I am keeping the factory system so I am using a line output converter. I have two questions regarding this installation:

1. How do I know which wires to splice into (i.e. color?) that are coming off the back of the factory head unit?

2. When I install the amp I have to disconnect the battery. Is this going to mess with the security system in the car? If so, how do I fix it?

there was a link in the how to section that went to some guys car domain page and the wire color info was there... you should have no issues with the security system if you are stock. if you aren't stock then i really don't know the answer to that question.... though one thing i found with my alarm was if i did disconnect the power have the key in the ignition when you put the power back on.
