Am I the only one happy with the OEM Toyo A36 Tires?

Just hit 25000 miles on my 23 cx5 turbo. much of the miles at higher speeds and the OEM tires are still at 6/32's (new is 10/32). I often read of people complaining about them but I have not had any traction issues and I live in Montana where we get temps from -30F to over 100F and rain and snow and everything in between. My wife drives it to work on snowy/icy roads and I have asked if she wants winter tires and she said it handles great. (she grew up in Minnesota so used to winter too). To be honest I was kind of hoping they would be as bad as some say as I love getting new tires .

I never had any traction issues with my OEM Toyos. They were causing vibrations until they heated up was my only issue with them. Replaced at about 28k miles with some meat on them still but got a killer deal on a set of Conti LX25's from DT so off they came

Maybe but i put a fair amount of mikes on ie 25000 miles in 1.5 years and still soft and providing good rain traction. Had some major rain driving recently. Fingers crossed

Our issue with them was mainly noise related. Replaced them at about 18k miles with CC2's and were much happier. While the OEM's weren't horrible in the snow, the CC2's were an improvement.

If you're happy, there's no need to worry about it. As they say, YMMV.

I agree with stickerbush.
The compound of the treads is different at the top and base.
The base is harder, which makes sense.
When people switch to new tires, they always feel new tires are much better. Quieter, stickier to the road... all the goodies. The simple fact is: your tires were old....

Not a fair comparison, all I am saying. Comparing new vs. old tires.

At 3,000 miles my biggest complaints were squishiness of the stock tires when turning, and that snow traction was pretty bad, but you can't expect that from them. I only changed them because I wanted a certain size and I wanted the best. The tradeoff is that tires in the UHP AS category have a firmer feel than Touring tires, but I was prepared for that.

Bonus, these don't collect as many rocks as the Toyos

I've still got my OEM Toyos at 45k miles on my 2021 CX-5. They're down to about 2/32" of tread so I will be replacing them shortly but I didn't think they were all that bad of a tire. Ae least they're evenly worn with only two rotations. Likely going with Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus3's next.

You will realize how bad they are when you slap the Pirelli's on.

At 35k miles, I'm happy enough with the Toyos. They still have a bit of life left in them and I'll replace them next year. I won't buy them as replacements as I'm sure I can do better but again, the Toyos were ok for me.

I had a 2016 CX-5 GT with Toyo A23s that was driven in Northern VA and they were fine, with rain the principle challenge. I purchased a 2021 Signature that came with A36s. The drive feel was fine but I replaced them after only ~20K miles as they performed very poorly in Northern Utah snow. I went with Michelin CC2s and could not be happier. Excellent tire all around -- very smooth and quiet. And a beast in the snow. Almost as effective as a dedicated snow tire in my experience.

Minnesotans will tolerate rocks for tires all in the name of convenience. Down in the metro I'd definitely be on some CrossClimate2's. I don't generally trust all-season rubber to brake very well when the temps are -15F... I know the AWD would get me going.

Agree. There's snow (heavy, light dry, inches, feet), temperature, and elevation. Minus 15F is pretty rare in the city. I have to drive 20 minutes up a canyon and get above 8,000 ft before I run into those temps routinely.

I'm aware how these Toyo's perform as I own a 2018 CX-5. After my second purchase of another CX-5 2024, I decided to purchase new tires after 1,000 miles on the vehicle. I replaced them with Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3. It made a big difference in handling. One thing I liked about the Toyo's, they were very smooth and quiet. Road noise on the Pirelli are a little louder than the Toyo's.
My other 2018 CX-5, I was able to get 48,000 miles on the original Toyo's .

I had the same experience with my switch to DWS06 Plus. The A36 were softer and quieter.

Just hit 15K miles and rotated then last week. I'm happy with them. I'll stay on them till I can't pass inspection and then shop around. Crazy to me to change out tires on a new vehicle.

I had a 2016 CX5 Akera until I traded it on a new Akera last week.

225/55/19’s on both.

The 2016 came with the Toyo’s and so did the new 2024.

I replaced the 2016’s Toyos with the Continentals and when they wore out, a second set of the ContiTechContact TC6’s went right back on.

Picked up the new car last week and was immediately reminded how much noisier the Toyos are than the Contis. And a bit of tramtracking at times.

I picked up a slight improvement in economy on the last car when I changed to the Contis. And they got 30% better mileage than the Toyos, and handled better in the wet.

Guess what will be going on the new car when the Toyo’s wear out?

It surely depends on the tire and not just the make. I assume my DWS06 Plus are not as quiet as your TC6.

Like you I really liked how the Toyo's performed, until the tread wore down....way too soon. I also went for the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3's and absolutely love how they perform
