This is a classic example of exactly what I try to explain to ppl. The cause of this "clouding" is due to UV unstable gel coat, there is no clear coat on the hood. With our products we use a special (patent pending) gel coat like product, AND also finish each product with PPG clear coat, resulting in a truely 100% UV stable product.

Unfortantely, there is no way to completely remove the damage to your hood because it is into the gel coat. Sanding, and applying a clear coat can help but some traces of the damage may still be visible and may even return. I'd suggest painting it body color.

Could you make sure it is waxed properly and stuff to keep this from happening . What if this starts to happen and you catch it early is it fixable ?

How long have you had your hood ?

tr-3 will help somewhat. It's a resin polish that will slow down the process and clean up some of the damage that's already done.

Not if the gel coat is not UV stable. UV rays will just go right through wax and other s*** like that, and if the hood is not cleared to start with you are waxing gel coat.

^^but what if you catch it early tho? i just one small "rash" on my hood. my body man told me it will be fine to get it cleared which i plan to do in a week or so think ill be okay crazy?

I had a VERY small patch of 'clouding' on my Gemini Composites reverse-cowl hood .. and when I say small, I mean small. It couldn't have been more than a couple inches across and a lil' over an inch tall.

I caught it RIGHT as it first formed, cause I'm anal like that. Took it into the best body shop around, had 'em reclearcoat the whole hood and got that custom paint scheme done at the same time. It looks perfect -- better than when it was new.

But that hood up there .. I think that's beyond hope. :(

do DG carbon hoods come clear coated?

No. As far as I know, we are the only company that provides a factory clear coat on every product. Please also keep in mind that clear coating isn't going to solve this problem, it is the type of resin used as well.

Damn, I'm the third owner on my hood. I thought the cloudiness would go away if I had the clear coat redone. I guess the fourth owner is going to get a good deal.

well, i plan on keeping my car for one more year and then im going to trade it in. When it comes time to sell the hood, someone is going to get it for $100 or less depending on how bad it looks
